Import Turbo Diesel 60series?
Anyone got any specs on these things. Are they 6cyl or 4cyl? And what displacement. What options do they usually come with?
I need a Tow rig and dont want a GQ as i would end up wheeling it. Want something thats capable of towing my lux which should way around 1500kgs but not very capable offroad. It wont ever get suspension or tyres so this is no concern.
Dont want to hear about insurance and why i shouldnt buy an import. Or what im better off buying.

Not sure about specs for the petrol variety, but the import 60 's have 4 cylander diesels, and I have seen both manual and auto versions. They are a 24V system as well. The motor is 3.4 Litres I think, but looks different to 3.4 litre diesel sold in 40's. Maybe same guts though. They are also Turbo-charged.
They have a nice interior, with a little tacho, and some come with electric windows and the like. The 62 series Sahara's have a fridge in the centre consol, but I have heard that some import normal 60's also have the fridge. This is the G-Pack I think. I have also heard that the import 60's have a factory locker in the backm but again, not sure about that.

can get with either 4 cyl or 6 cyl, auto or manual. 6 cyl ones are available from local market. jap import ones will typically be stacked with power everything, twin air, steer, sunroofs, adjustable shocks that don't work, heated seats, a questionable or nonexistant service history, etc etc.

the 13B-T is arguably the better motor and has more power potential than the 12H-T - with a bigger turbo, intercooling and tuning a reliable 300+ hp is achievable from either.
the A440F auto trans is a place where power goes to die and rebuilds are expensive, its strength is also marginal for towing applications. the H55F manual is fairly robust but 5th gear is an achilles heel and needs to be babied.
60 series are about as comfortable as a hilux of similar age without the benefits of small size and economy.
I know you don't want to hear it but for similar $ a V6 pajero or jackaroo or similar makes a far more comfortable and economical tow rig, will use more fuel but also go faster and maintenance on a newer petrol vehicle is significantly cheaper.

There is plenty of them in Perth .I ve never seen a BJ 60,they were all 12HT or 2H.

all the ones i have seen are 12HT 24V. Alot of places are now doing an import 80s which is a 24V 1-HDT, which in my mind you would be better of with, only for the reason that they are newer and coils "should" give a better ride.
Both engines have piss weak bottom ends, to replace a 12HT you will pay around $6000 and to replace the HDT you will pay about 10,000. make sure you get one with a good engine although i have seen both with over 500,000 on them and still going strong.
All the ones i have seen are push botton 4x4, same as offered in the australian 10/89 on wood 60s. I believe it is the same auto that is used in the 80s, so basically it is a bomb proof box, some are 4speed and some 3 with electronic over drive. All are 5speed manual HJ box, so pretty cheap to replace if something does go wrong from towing.
Another thing to check in the rear diff, they are a hybrid old school 40s come 60s, they have a steal hat ctr and are not a lift out ctr like all other cruisers, just something to keep in mind if towing.....eg humphrey at rover park!
The sunroofs ALL rust and are around 800 bucks for a good second hand one and $2500 from toyota, most wreckers will not sell parts only complete as is the same with toyota, being 24V and import i believe they are all dual battery and as stated above have all electric options, i have never seen a povo pack import.
thats about all i can think of now.
