turbo gas set up for economics
hey all im doin another turbo set up on a gq tb42e and wanted to know everyones opinion on what the best set up would be for good econemy?
im planing on running it 99.9% gas and just have a small petrol tank for way out bush, ill just set it up so when i flick it onto petrol at drops the boost to a safe level so i dont need extensive injectors, pump, reg etc, for somthing im hardly ever gunna use. i use the 4x as an everyday driver and towing the boat and 4x4ing, it has 35's and 4.11 diff gears. ill prob put 4.6's in it after i turbo it depends how it performs with the turbo.

There are only two ways to go I would suggest, mainly as they both offer tuneability that cannot be offered in your basic complex mixer simple converter conversion. Personally I'd go Gasresearch, it's a proven product and it tunes up very well, it works well in straight LPG or duel fuel EFI situations. The other option is injection, there are a number of systems,some cheaper than others, both liquid an vapour exit. the cheaper system rarely work out cheaper as the injector failure rate can be quite high. The other thing is the cost, expect to pay another grand for injection over Gasresearch.

yeah the set up i did on me old one was gas research and b2 converter, seemed like a good set up. what size gas research do you recomend for econemy? 350cfm, 400cfm? or bigger? it will be set up tame for the best econemy. what turbo would be best for this application? im planing on running a msd 6btm triggerd of the stock elec dizzy and good plugs and leads front mount cooler and probably a td42t low mount manifold if any ones got one for sale let me know, cheers

yeah me old set up was pritty much the same as that sept i was running a gas research, i found it came onto boost at about 2800, bit high for what i want the new one to be like. what is yours like on fuel? would you know what turbo would spool up at around the 2k mark and not be too small that it will be on full boost at 100 and suck the fuel. i will only be running 8psi or somthing so am i rite in saying if i have a small turbo with a big external waste gate it will come onto boost early and be free enough to rev out without sucking too much juice at cruz?? thanx for the replys.

hmm, i can help you in saying that a gt3540 is going to be too big for what you want there, they dont spool till about 2500. The one im using hits boost at 2k, it has a .64 front housing and .84 rear i think, or it might be 1.04 rear, not sure now.
either way the right sized turbo for your application will get the best results, a good t3 turbo will spool at that point, and shouldnt run out of puff, mine dies at about 5500 ish rpm, but thats to be expected from chinese stuff

oh really mine must of been a bigger t3/t4. whats yours like on fuel? how do you think a ball bearing t3 would go or a t3/t4 ball bearing?

i think a good bearing t3 would out perform the cheaper t3/t4's as all the hybrids i have seen are bush turbos. on gas i get about 18L per 100 if im thrashing it, or it drops to about 14 ish L per 100 if i baby it.

14l of gas to 100k is awsome! would a t3 ball bearing be that good on fuel or will it be spinnin over too fast at 100 and use more fuel?
