Ok, maybe one of the resident techs can answer this. so here goes.
Looking for an Auto trans to go behind a LS engine, My preferred choice is a 4L80E, But that would require some sort of computer to control it, the only decent aftermarket setup is to dear at near $1600 US.
Trying to find somebody that can steer me in the right direction as far as controlling it with the correct engine ECU is proving to be like pulling teeth.
Or should I just put up with a TH400 and live without the overdrive?
My other Dilemma is which transfer case to use, My first though would be a 19 spline split case off an auto 60 series but reduction gears are worth almost as much as a 3 speed Stak Case by the time I actually rebuild the case......
Opinions and Ideas please peoples ?

You can run a factory LS1 PCM and flash in a 4L80 program into it. (Oztrack in Sydney can help with that too). Craig fitted a 4L80 to a Adventra AWD with over 400KW (at all wheels) and does a lot of drag racing setups so know how to build boxes to cope with torque (which is what kills em).

Depends on the diff's your using. If on Drivers side (pumpkin) then GQ/GU, if on Passenger side then an Atlas is the go. (note im no expert on transfer cases but i know my LS1's)
IM using GQ diff's, GQ Transfer and a 4L65e (lighter and shorter than the 4L80) and a LS1 in my CJ7

How many solenoids does the 4L80E have?

Not to sure if this would work but what bout r4/t700 no computer I'm using one in my gu patrol all good just a thought

I am running a beefed 4L60e minus the computer. Fully manualised with trick gate in the shifter for straight 1st - rev selector. This negates the need for reversing the body, pretty simple really.
I will be running passenger drop & I currently have a NP205 but thinking of going Atlas with a couple other people on a group buy.

Ok this is probably going to be a bit dumb but here goes.
i'm looking at running a 6BTA in my hotrod so my trans will need to be fairly beefy. If running auto i'll more or less be limited to Allison to handle that kind of torque.
So from the research i've had to do for that, I know the Duramax's have allisons behind them and have the GM bellhousing pattern. Any reason you couldn't use one of them? The latest model is the Allison 1000, but you could probably use a AT545 if funds are an issue. Allisons are seriously BIG boxes which could be an issue but their ratings are proportionately larger too.

Allison trans will not work, They are built for torque, however they will not handle the high RPM of the LS.
Duramax redlines at 3800 RPM. However would be perfect for your 6Bt, with a standalone controller. I beleive adapters are available in the US.
I would say 6l80e or 6l90e, however not sure there are many standalone controller available

Ok thanks guys, Doing more homework last night,
I found that TransGo do a full manual valve body for the 4L80 get's rid of the electronics and is reasonably cheap

I just finished integrating a GQ Patrol transfer onto a 6L80E.
I didn't use a commercial adaptor and total cost was $150.00. By doing it my way I didn't need to dismantle the transmission as you would with a Marks adaptor.
The 6L80E looks to be a bit of a bitch to control but nothing ventured nothing gained.
This is all behind an LS3 6.2.
