just went to replace my rear rotors and pads and found that ive had no rear brakes for a while.
my set up is the commonly done lux rear with gq rotors and l series calipers.
due to the l series caliper being designed for a smaller diameter rotor the pads over hang the edge of the rotor, which i noticed when i fitted them but my pads where not yet worn out but the part overhanging the rotor was now touching so i was just clamping the pads togeather not the rotor. dont know if this has been said before or not..
this is the lip formed
this is them touching with enough gap for the rotor still
bugger that sucks. I had the same setup on my hilux rear end for around 5,000kms before I sold it now you got me thinking I should have checked the pads. Maybe grind the lip down periodically if that's not too bootyfab for ya?
What do we want? TIME TRAVEL! When do we want it? THAT'S IRRELEVANT!
Could you fit a wear indicator to the rear calipers like the front calipers have??
You know the little metal plate with the bit that sticks out, when it hits the rotor, it makes a squeal type sound, then you would know that your pads need to be replaced.

Oh I desperately truly love the taco.
Not supposed to run pads bigger than the rotor anyway. Wouldn't want a roadworthy done with em. Can't you just get a smaller pad and not worry bout this crap?
I found the same thing when i set mine up, Using the roctoy brackets, i found i could get the caliper closer to the center of the rotor by a couple of mm so i re-designed brackets and got them cut to try and combat what happened to yours, they still hang over the top but only just.
