SOA on 75 Series Troopie

Does anyone know or have pictures of a 75 series troopie that has had a spring over axle converion done?

Becuase the troopies are so big and heavy, would that sort of lift make the it really tippy?

If you were to fit 10" wide wheels on say 33"x12.5" tyres would this cure most of the stability issues.

I have no experience with leaf just coil.

i haven't got pics of one on me, a 4wd monthly had one.

only 33's on a sprung over troopy would be a bit silly, as a spring over will get you about 5 inches of lift (big + or -), so some phat 38's (or something). another fix for the instability is to use 80series diffs+axles, as they are wider. more (or is it less) backspacing in the rims (so the rims stick out further) will help as well. but i wouldn't garentee it'd be legal

yeah i have seen one in 4wd monthly. i think the guy was in WA.

there is one that gets around my work area (hurstville) it looks huge and he runs 35's
my 80 is gone :(

There is one running around my area, but its a mucho bling show rig (never seen it dirty!). It is FAWKING high. I met the bloke at the local bottle shop just before christmas. At that time i didnt have a digi cam with me. Some specs:-

-SOA with(what looked to be) 3" lifted springs
-2" lift blocks
- 2" body lift
- 35" Coopers

Sitting next to the 80 (i only got 6" lift), the sidestep probably sat a good 4-5" higher than mine....like i said, it was high. he couldnt tell me much about who did the SOA, as he bought it from a dealer. I dare say it would be VERY tippy tippy offroad, but geez did it look good :shock:

Thanks for the responces so far, I will try to track down that issue of 4x4 Monthly.

Ok here is my idea.

75 Series Troopie
SOA using OME Springs with Rancho 9012's all round.
35" Rubber using 10" wide rims that are offset so they stick out a bit more.

There would however be no body lift.

The troopie would have draws, tanks (petrol and water), tow/bull bars, winch and side rails.

Would this be an ok ballance between a bit of an offroader and a good capable tourer?

As I said earlier I have no experience with leafs and soa, just custom lifted coils. I know that a troopie is not going to be a hardcore rig, nor perform aswell offroad as my Lifted Twin Turbo-Charged Bundera. :)
So I am keen to hear what you all have to think about such an idea.

When traveling on road I think that with heavyduty springs, with the ranchos set fairly hard and with the 10" wide wheels sticking out of the gards a fair bit the stability should pretty good. Most probably alot more stable than when I had a 6"Suspension lift and 1.5" body lift on my bundera with only 31"x10.5"x15"
on 15x7" wheels!

Tell me what u think. I am open to all suggestions.

if you havent already sold it, keep ya bundy for the offroad stuff and go nuts with it.

put in 2 inch OME springs and 33s for ya troopy which is for touring/tow rig for the bundy ;)

if you really wanna run 35s id try and keep it low by chopping guards.

remove leaves if you go spoa (remember you will probably need a trac bar to stop axle wrap), to limit the lift given (possibly to 3 inchs). and it gives a better ride and more flex. you wont need 5 inch lift for 35s.

that SPOA troopy in 4wd monthly had 37x13 boggers. (issue No.55)

just my thoughts.

I had a SPOA HJ47 Troopy, did it in '95. Was just about the first troopy to be sprung over I think. It ran 36x12.5x15 TSX's. It had 2 or 3 leaves taken out of the stock springs.

It drove well and only fell asleep once at Porters.

HJ75 is that much higher again in the body I would start to get worried.

There's one that frequents Blacktown/Seven Hill area and it is :shock: HUGE! :shock: Again i have never seen this one dirty, but who cares... the facts are simple... The driveline/engine/build quailty/etc. are all +'s for the Troopy, however the dimentions are what limits it down hard core tracks... could you imagine, I had enough trouble getting a SWB MQ out of the way of trees and rocks, and even then it went on its side a few times. Apart from the fact that it's turning circle is horrid.

Hey the Troopie is a good truck, but there's a few reasons why you don't see them too much in the rough stuff

The 4wd monthly with the soa 75 troopy was issue 55 july 03.Has some good closeups

There are two sprung over 60s around the hills area one is white and more out towards windsor
the other is the kaki browny colour and is in the more west pennet hills area i see it most tuesday and wednesday mornings going to uni when he goes around a round about looks pretty cool gets some good body roll

hey, for the guy with the sprung over hj47 troopy, have you got any more pics? my brother's long term goal is to spring over the hj45 we got as a Daily driver at the moment

thanks for those pics, i'd never seen a 45 troopy SPOA, and was wondering if it would look Grimace. but it's inspired me to do something like that in a few years time.

the wheelbase doesn't looks so big with a SPOA.

and was it/ could it be engineered?
