dual fuel tanks
hey guys, was lying under my car the other day and noticed i have a big empty space opposite my original fuel tank. now my tank is a 70l and i would like to put a 70l on the other side, but im not too sure how to plumb it up. my ute has a v6 commy engine if this helps. id like to run an aftermarket seperate fuel gauge too if possible. where would the fuel filler neck be located? any help would be muchly appreciated

Easiest way would be to just pump straight into the existing tank.
As for filling you want them to both be on the same side otherwise it would be a pain in the arse to fill.

yeah for an EFI setup it'd be easy to just pump from the 2nd tank into the main tank.
Unless you get a second tank that has a high pressure fuel pump in it or set up an external high pressure pump and a couple of solienoids off something like an 80 to switch between tanks.
But in saying that if your gonna have an external high pressure pump you'd probably need a high flow/low pressure pump to feed the high pressure pump as some of them don't like sucking fuel uphill very much.
Unless you get a second tank that has a high pressure fuel pump in it or set up an external high pressure pump and a couple of solienoids off something like an 80 to switch between tanks.

thanks for the replies, i will be running a standard internal efi fuel pump, would it be easy to pump it to the other tank? is that what everyone else does? could i have a switch to switch over electronically??

on ebay you can buy fuel solenoid set ups which can you wire in to select the fuel supply line you want to use. commonly used for people running 2 tanks for diesel and veg oil.
this would be one nice way of setting it up.
Otherwise, just have it pump into your main tank - this is how a patrol does it, i bought a patrol pump for $15 last time i was stuffing about with this kind of thing. they are a very slow pump, maybe 1L per min or so. In a patrol the set up automatically lubes the pump system by running for 30 seconds on start up and auto cuts out when all fuel is pumped across - unless you had those features you might find this pump might not last long.
but if the tank you put in had an in tank pump then just wire that up on a switch to pump into your main tank.
