Brian, I have some bad news, the rocks are staying, but you will be hitting them from the other end this year.

Hopefully everyone wanting to enter has the forms filled out and signed ready to fax away, as there can't be many places left now, it's going to be a HUGE 3 days of racing!!
Dam straight Mosko. We have mapped out 20 stages of mahem over the weekend.
We now have 25 spots taken, so only 7 left, & I expect them to be gone in the next couple of days.

True that. Hopefully Dizzy will pass the breath test first go this year. Maybe he was behind Duncan last year and still had the fumes in the machine. Hope im behind you on the creek stages, at least the trees will be out of the road.

The 2011 Opposite Lock Mackey Offroad Challenge is the first comp that we have entered. I am after advice on what kind of GPS i need for the comp. I was considering a Garmin eTrex. Any advice would be great thanks.

last year when I did the event we used a Magellan hand held unit, and if I knew how to use it we would have easily found all points with it as it was a straightforward gps run
I now have a Proper hard mounted gps that we use for WTC, it makes life a bit easier but once again I don't know how to use it properly.....
So my tip is if you are looking to just do fun comps like this then a hand held will be fine, if you can get one with a decent sized screen it will help when bouncing around.
Oh and as I have pointed out it really doesn't matter what type of gps you have if you can't use them, I'm thinking of trialing a map and compass this year
If
Thanks for the advice. My mate and I are only in for fun at the moment our budget dosn't streach as far as we would all like. The hand held unit sounds like the go for us. Thanks again for the advice, see you at the Comp.

as mosko said . basic hand held will do . as long as you know how to use it .
for this comp , the more basic gps you can find ther better .
last year i used a magellin explorest and found the points no drams .
dont get a touch screen . to hard to punch details in on the move .
what are you running now mosko the 3206, if so how do you find it to comp with ?

We have a Magellan fx 324 in Toygoata, it's fast and can get the accuracy down to something like 3m or so and alot of the faster teams run them, But I just struggle working my way though the menus to the map we want when we are on the go, but I only have used it three- 4 times and that's at a comp haha .
I have also used the 3206 with Phil in his 80 and it was easier for me, with a bigger screen, it's colour, and the keypad is a bit better layer out aswell,
I'm not sure what model, but Bear is now selling gps units through Total offroad!!
