BJ42 Tailshaft

Hey guys.
I'm about to cut down a driveshaft to suit the rear of my 40 (need a longer one), and my question is about the slip joint. I've got a bout 100mm in the joint, how much of that should be compressed at normal ride height?

I'm thinking i'm going to need more room for expansion then compression because the diff will move further back than it will foward when it articulates?

Any help much appretiated, thanks.

If you get someone to do it properley (Driveline etc) all they will need is the distance between flanges at ride height and they will set it accordingly.

You just did flipped 60 series springs into the back of a BJ42 LX with a factory five speed?

A mate of mine has that exact setup, I should be around at his place on thursday and will try to remember to take measurements.

I found a shaft out of an 80 series and got it cut down, swapped over yoke flanges from the 42. Can't help on measurements, just asked them to take a bit out and can't remember how much I quoted.

Saves butchering the originals shaft if you have access to an alternative.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've got a spare shaft out of a 45, I plan to just cut the yoke off the diff end, cut a section of the shaft off, then weld the yoke back on. I should be able to keep it balanced using the equipment at work.

All I really need is how much of the slip joint is compressed when sitting at normal ride height?
