VSS for ls1 75 with 80 series box

Post by BFCK97 »

I'm chasin info if anyone knows what i could do for a vss for my ls1 cruiser.
its got a 75 cab and 80 series running gear.
the 75 speedo cable screws into the 80 series box fine but doesnt have the vss thing on it like an 80 series one.
But the 80 series 1 is electric and won't suit the 75 series speedo.
i was thinking of finding something like this, just for the vss signal for the ls1 ecu.

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm? ... zm_109.gif" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or does anyone else know something i could use.
running the ls1's without a vss they use about twice as much fuel as when they have a vss and i don't want that.

im sure that marks 4wd had a vss that was cable in and out with an electronic signal for the computer.
would using a later 75 dash cluster suit?
i know that the hiluxes changed to electronic signal clusters but not sure if the 75s did?
Keep it shiny side up!
Now doing general fab work and painting
trays, trailers, engine swaps on request, some tube work, silo section sliders, rust repairs, ute chops etc

i think in the 79 series they may have an electronic dash signal....not 100% sure.
i think marks do 1 at around the $300 range but that dakota 1 is about 40 or 50 bucks so a touch cheaper.

You can have your vss turned off on your pcm no need for it, Independent motor sports Morwell victoria did mine.

does that effect fuel economy at all?
i'd been told to run 1 to get the best fuel economy possible.
my cruiser is guna end up being my daily and do a few long trips so don't want it to guzzle too much.
my brothers ls1 75 series gets about 350km to a tank and a mates ls1 gq gets about 22-26L/100km or so.
without the vss signal won't it just run on base idle tune?

depends on your tune, you can set it no no vss, but it will stall easier at low rpm as the computer is set for driving tune.

I'd recommend the vss i'm goin to be putting it into my cruiser as it doesn't matter how I drive at the moment I always get between 19-22L/100km with a standard ls1. Once you have the standard vss i think you can use the commodores cruise control which is a bonus.

I run an adapter VSS like the one in your link on my 40 with the falcon EFI motor. Used to get a rev cut due to lack of speed sensor input. I got it through an instrument specialist local to me. You might have an instrument specialist local to you that can help you rather than importing. Don't remember mine being overly expensive.
