Turbo for 1hz? what is the best one out there?

Post by _Mitcho_ »

hey guys

ive read about a million threads with different people saying their turbo is better than others, ive got a 1hz 80 series and im going to turbo it in the next 2 weeks, ill be buying an adapter from Advanced Intercoolers.

i just want to know what turbo is best suited for me, i want plenty of down low torque and still a fair amount of power in the higher rev range, i was looking at a garrett GT2871 .64 A/R

It seems to be a decent turbo for what im after but i would like to hear from the gurus what they think.

thanks mitch!

which trim are you looking at as there is a 48, 52, and 56 trim available for the above turbo.

what are u after mate? highway driving or bush?. i run a garret 2860 with .64 trim and i find at 100kmh its making around 6 pound boost. good in the bush as its so snappy in rev range. but probably no good on highway or towing.

basically any .64 or lower turbine A/R turbo will be spinning its head off on the highway.

Mine will sit on about 20 psi at 100, but with the slightest hill or change in throttle it will go straight to waste.

Would have a very short life on the highway id say.

Have you looked into why it is making 20psi under light load conditions on flat road? That is not normal.

I have built dozzens of 1HZ's with 2860 in that exact spec and they are all around 4-6psi cruising on the highway.

Do you have any kind of adaptor that could be acting as a venturi onto the turbine impeller?

Dont want to take away from this thread, but its a 2876 with .64, lots of fuel, advanced timing, custom intake manifold/intercooler.

Id put the loading down to the 40" sticky's lol

I liked my old set-up with the bigger turbo than the one i have now. Boost came on 500rpm later but a lot harder so you only used it when you really needed it. Only used to make 4psi on the highway so less heat when cruising current one makes double on the highway and it's a lot hotter as well.

ill be using it in the bush for towing and on the street, i dont mind a little bit of lag but i would like it to come on strong when it does come on boost. what about a gt3076 .86 A/R?
