lit switch, probably something simple...

This is probably something simple but..

I'm using a narva iluminated switch (62051BL) to turn on a relay that will send power to an anderson plug at the rear of the vehicle so that my mate will remember that the fridge in the van is running off of the car. They don't have a dual battery.

The switch has 3 pins, 1 power, 2 acc, 3 earth. I have run a fused supply direct from the battery to 1, 3 is earthed to the body, but when I run a wire from 2 back to the relay to switch it, it sparks like a dead short, but also the light in the switch stays on no matter what position the switch is in.

The relay is narva 68060 and is wired
30 supply from battery for caravan
85 earth
87 supply to caravan anderson plug
86 switch

I tried a plain on/off toggle and it worked fine, but trying to use the lit switch seems to be the pain... Any thoughts where I might be going wrong?

Going by the wiring diagrams on the narva website, it looks like you're wiring it the way I would expect it to work.

Sounds to me like you've got your wiring at the switch around the wrong way maybe.

sounds a bit different, are you switching power or earth from the relay ?

Try disconnecting the switch and then operate it whilst checking which contacts operate (using an ohmmeter). You may find that you have a dud switch (closed contacts all the time).

Finally had a chance to have a look at the setup yesterday. Date is spot on, the switch is dead and was open circuit no matter which position the switch is in.
