Hi Guys, I am chasing a Disco ser 1,2 (or 3 maybe) preferably lifted 2-4" to measure up for some new suspension designs for a few hours (secret squirrel stuff ). I can travel to you or if you are free on a saturday morning and want a nice drive out to burpengary (Superior Engineering ) that would be great. If anyone could help me out that would be much appreciated , and i am sure i can return the favour once the products are designed. A lifted rangie could also be an option as well. PM me if interested.

Greg,
landrover 110's, Defenders, Classic RangeRover and Disco 1 are all esentially the same. Radius arms came in 2 types, both the same lenght, both the same axle bush spacing, but they had differnt widths 40 and 45mm I think. Rear trailing arms are the same length and pin/bush set up but some were stronger than the others. Rear A frame all the same unless it had the attaching point for load leveler, but still same length and bush/ball set up.
Disco 2 has different RA, bigger axle bushes with more bush seperation to accomodate, has a perpendicular pin/bush at chassis end as opposed to parrallel like the landy's rangies D1 etc, and runs a watts link rear instaed of A frame.....
Disco 3 is independant suspention all round

also forgot to add that the pin ends on the 2 standard type radius arms (thick and thin) are different dia. So they are the same overall length, have the same axle bush spacing, just different widths and different pin (chassis)end dia

Thanks for the offer pete and for the info serg. Dan came over this arv for a few hours and we got heaps of data and measurements of the disco. The 'flex' data collected for the baselines is great. Some of it is quite surprising and my initial thoughts are that we can do a really nice RA and shock setup. I can't wait to start the design process

If you haven't already you may want to read up on the safari gard 3-link. They make/made what is the best articulating bolt-on front suspension for a rover. yeah i saw the SG 3 link setup when they first came out. sure they flex well but then you need a swaybar to stop the thing toppling over and give some sort of 'feel' back into the chassis. I am not looking at making a wicked ramp queen setup - thats not what the SF arms are about, just looking for a good medium between great driveability and good flex. I prefer to have some sort of feel when all flexed up or on scary angles, at least then you can decide wether to turn out of it OR bury the boot and drive through it!ISUZUROVER wrote:If you haven't already you may want to read up on the safari gard 3-link. if its to early to say thats fine, just wondering on the front shock setup? will it still be inboard the coil. Ive been told that a 14inch travel fox 2.0 RR will bind inside the coil cup at full travel, this was using modded RA's to be able to flex more. Some have run shocks outboard the coil (in front)

I have a D2 with a 2" lift parked out the front, and i live on the northside of Brisbane. There's a few stuffed bushes in it but otherwise its sweet. Will be getting stripped and 4-link rear in the next week or so if your keen i can lend it out this weekend. PM, or if your super keen 0411 397 060. Always keen to work with people developing bit for the D2, there isnt enough around. I had to go to the US for things like front arms and 4 - link conversions, I'd be keen to see it being made up the road from my house

Good to see it happening on the rover front too, the toyota RAs were getting them almost upto scratch with the standard rover front end
Interested to see what shock design you are looking to implement, and the reasoning for this. keep us informed.

You need to be a little careful with "baseline" data. The difference in articulation between earlier narrow bushing arms and later is huge, between swaybared truck and and non sway bars is a big factor as well and lifted trucks usually are even less as they have stiff springs.1MadEngineer wrote:Thanks for the offer pete and for the info serg.
