HILUX SURF Altimeter / Clinometer Instrument Cluster repair?

Post by RElux »

Hey all, Tomorrow i will attempt to repair the Altimeter / Clinometer Instrument Cluster in my 89 surf.. im leaning towards this being a common problem because 3 other surfs i know of, all have the same problem.

Im Sure they work with water, right? It cant be that hard ;)

If anyone has any advice or anything it would be muchly appreciated.. and a big thank you in advance!

Thankssssssss

If your taking the time to take look at those gauges while wheeling, it's not going to be much of an angle to worry about anyway

SGESCO might be able to help if your in Brisvegas.

I find my pucker gauge works heaps better at telling me how bad a side slope is. It's also transferable from vehicle to vehicle. When you're touching cloth it's probably time to reverse out. Only down side is people look at you funny when you try and show them your gauge.

Mr DJ knows what I'm talking about. :finger:

well i took time to look at those guages in dougs car lol seen it first hand last yr go past the highest degree mark side angle and my ass was clentching the front seat and atrol was pushing the glass in the back to hold him self off the window lol
so in my surf the guages are coming out and im fitting oil water and pyro guages in there. a bit of custom work in stead of having guages on the pillar.

Well, It's fixed! It actually works with weights, and what was causing the problem was the "lock" knob.

What had happened was, the previous owner must have pressed the knob in, fairly hard... to the point where its pushed the 2 plastic casing pieces together, causing it to constantly be locked. (That knob should only be turned, not pushed).

So, re-aligning the 2 pieces of plastic free'd it up.

if anyone wants to see a picture let me know, ill upload it to show you which pieces i was talking about.

thanks guys!!

regards
