Post by POI53L »

i have just recently done a gearbox in my hilux, an im looking for another 2nd hand one if anyone has one for sale in the sydney area?

also is the 80's model hilux g52 box the same as the 90's model hilux box?

i have maunal locking hubs, can i buy any g52 box even with push button hubs then split the box and transfer case and and use my transfer case for the manual hubs?

I don't think so mate, a mate tried it and the rear housing is different and can't be changed over for the earlier model one (his is an sr5 with push button activation). But different models could be different
if it ain't broke send it to me i'll fix it!

nah mate no can do.. i`m currently in the middle of doing a swap from the 91 v6 4runner (on the fly 4x4) to diesel (manual locking hubs) and was in the same situation the transfer case from behind the g52 is full time chain driven and behind the r150f (from behind the V6 and most turbo diesel) gear box transfer is solenoid part time driven. to change from the g52 to the r150f behind a normally aspirated diesel you need to get your hands on another bell housing(the 2.4 turbo diesel surf obviously manual is the 1 we went for $140 from wreckers or $460 from marks 4wd adapters) besides that there was also a issue with the hubs being on the fly that makes half of that issue on just the gear box but then there was a hand full of others that lead on from there..

in saying that i now have a g52 gearbox spare mate if your still in need.

hi guys i just took mine for a maiden voyage today as i put the gear box out if a 98 diesel into my ln106 using my old gear driven transfer case. you can swap the rear of the gearbox adapter housing. and use the rear off your old gear box and it should be fine to bold up but the splines from the gearbox output and the input spline of the transfer may not match up but i got a new coupler machined for about $100 and then happy days.

new stronger gearbox and old stronger transfer case
