Winch Rope

Post by sir_142 »

Hey people,
Picked up a warn high mount second hand and figured I might put some synthetic rope one it. Two questions, how many meters does a warn high mount need? And what one to get? This will not be used in any comps just want good value for money for a 8000pound winch on a SWB patrol. Was thinking might even take advantage of the good dollar and get some from the states as shipping shouldn't be too much. Had a look on eBay Australia and US but yeah heaps to choose from. Any tips on recommended brands/thinckness/websites would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Alex

Mine took 38m approx of 12mm rope.

For a Patrol I wouldnt go under 10mm, probably get about 40m on the drum without too much hassle.

Just be aware some of the (cheaper) ropes can frey and swell with use, hence over time you may effectively have less room on the drum to work with.
My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.

Get a zero stretch braid from a boat shop. Cheaper, but same. Dyneema or Dynamico are commonly used. Then just crimp one end, and splice a thimble onto the other.
