some additional questions please...

Post by haasa »

Hi,

I'm new @ outerlimits4x4. (you'll find my intro in http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... 4&start=60)

Last two weeks I was going though most of the threads here to lean as much as possible about Feroza mods.
OK. So far so good.

Unfortunately I found not all answers to my questions (but most of them)

Open things which I couldn't find are:

A)
How much lift in the rear is possible without changing the rear driveshaft or without using driveline spacers? I plan to lift (bending) my leaf springs and use longer shackles (or missing link shackles). :)

B)
Winding up the torsion bars: I had a Pajero before I got the Feroza. On the Pajero I cut off upper and lower bumpers on the wishbones - that worked fine and gave me a lot more axle wrap in the front (without anti sway bar of course). Will I need new dampers when cutting of the bumpers? Is it worth to do it? :?

C)
Because the previous owner (my friend) played around with the torsion bars :? , I don't know if my Feroza is already lifted in the front (I don't know if my wishbones are higher or lower than stock). Does anybody here know how much winding up is possible without destroying the front axles? But please don't tell me 2 inch. I'll need an angle of the axle or better: a distance to the bumper on the lower wishbone, or something like that..... :?

D)
Gearing: gear ratio in low is about 34:1 Is this correct :?:

E)
Body lift: Should be no problem. I did it 3 times on Suzuki's. Seems to be very very similar on Ferozas. ;)

F)
Winch: Does anybody have some pics about the installing :?:

For all mods on my Pajero or Suzuki I wrote installation instructions with a lot of pics on http://www.uahhh.org. This is what I also will do for the Feroza mods. So a lot of pics will be available soon on http://www.uahhh.org

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best,
Haasa

Btw: this is the Feroza ('92) as I got it yesterday:

A)
I would stick to around 3.5" of lift. Around 2" of Spring Lift & around 1.5" of Extended Shackle lift ( 2" longer Shackles ) is pretty much ideal. You won't be able to match the front Torsion Bar lift anyway, so any higher than 3.5" is useless.

B)
Personally I wouldn't cut the bumpstops completely  Again get rid of your Sway Bar - you can shave the upper rubber bumpstops down a bit - but in the real world it doesn't make a lot of difference. I would leave the lower ones alone.

C)
Around 2" should be fine.... :finger: Maximum height would be around 10mm gap from the upper bumpstops don't have them resting on them completely. Any higher is just going to chew out CV's - particularly on the Narrow Tracks which have the shorter axles.

D)
Sounds pretty close - basically not low enough

E)
Sounds like you shouldn't have any problems - 2" is plenty & won't affect the steering. Just look up the previous posts regarding the rear body mounts which are studs with nuts on both ends - NOT bolts. They are also Metric Fine threads -

F)
Kent has some good pics of his original Winch Mount if he is still around - also of his new custom bumper. I mounted mine in a TJM Winch Bullbar - don't think they still make them though.

Good Luck with your mods - Mike H.

On the Suzuki we are replacing all the studs with standard 10mm studs (in quality 8.8). Because some are welded on the chassis and some don't have hexagonal heads (is this correct english?) I had to drill them out (pics). That's what I like to do as well with the Feroza.
Maybe I don't understand "which are studs with nuts on both ends - NOT bolts" What a hell are "studs without nuts"? (I'm german native speaker)
what I mean
what you mean ?
The only problem I will run into is the extension of the 4wd-shiftlever, cause it's very very hard to get finemetric stuff here...

Kent is Toyhatsu. Isn't he?
Found 3 pics:

But more interesting would be the mounting on the frame.. ;)

THANKS!

Thanks - I'll keep you updated!
