How many kms? Is it quiter when the engine is cold but gets louder as it warms up? It may have spun a big end bearing.

I have the 3.0L diesel 5L engine in my 99 lux, and i Had these same noises, but it happened after I blew the engine, it was making big end sounds but it was really running bad already...Take it to a mechanic and show them, where abouts do you live?

Might have jumped a tooth on the timming belt. I had the tensioner bearing fail on mine and the outer sheild of the bearing came adrift and went around the timing belt causing it to jump a tooth or too.

I've got the exact same sound but the engine still drives normally... Don't know what it is either...

It could also be a blown exhaust gasket or cracked manifold.
