Do you mean that you have checked the globe and wiring to it and it's OK? Is the alternator charging the battery? (no recent flat batteries?)

On older alternator ("mechanical" external regulators) the light serves a purpose of supplying an initial excitation voltage to the alternator to start the charging.

Later alternators with electronic regulators usually do not need this exciter voltage.

I have not checked the globe but will tomorrow, I have an after market monitor that tells me the volts and what the alt is putting out.
battery is 12.7 and alt is 14.1 when driving.
I have no idea where to start looking for a fault.

cheers.
