transfer case can't select low range
transfer case can't select low range
i just got a 85 mq turbo diesel 5 speed and it won't go into low range i can shift the transfer stick down into h4 and then into neutral but it won't go into l4. doe's anyone know why it would do this or how to fix it.
Re: transfer case can't select low range
Pull the trim covers off and check someone hasnt run wiring behind the stick.
Ive seen this a few times with dodgy home wiring jobs, where people have successfully wired stuff in and the wires are taught around the 4wd selector not allowing either 4wd/neutral/l4wd.
After that, check the linkages. Pull them off and use a shifter to try and select it manually.
If all that fails, its in the transfer case.

Re: transfer case can't select low range
i had that problem after i did a body lift ,just check that the stick isnt just hitting the floor..ie wont go into l4 because the floor hasn,t been cut away to suit. 10 min job.
Re: transfer case can't select low range
happens all the time with my 80 and I just give a huge squirt of CRC on the linkages to free it up again. Only happened since the body lift but that was more coincidence I think. Old mate of mine who has serviced Toyotas for decades knew all about it and put me on to the CRC. Could be completely different with a GQ of course but I'm offering what was my solution
