Hello all ya nissan boys,I just got my self a Mq swb with a 327 in her,as ya's know im currently running the SD 33 diesel engine with 4 speed box.My questions are,
1.Are the diesel gearboxes the same as the Petrol ones,i asume the clutches are different yes?I want to fit the 327 to my current diesel shell.Im pretty sure it is a marks kit but im not 100%.
2.And id also like conformation on the difference (if any)between petrol/diesel diff ratios.Have heard diesel are better?
3.Has anyone fitted two small LPG tanks under the rear once the fuel tank has been removed,or is the tank better in the back behind the rear seat?
(Does anyone have a Gas carbi and tank set up)I have the converter and mixer.
Help much appreciated.

My brother and I were told by a number of people that diesel MQ diff ratios were lower.
We have a petrol MQ and the ratios on it are 4.6. We also had a diesel shell with diffs on it, so we pulled them out and they were 4.6 also. A bit perplexed, we got out the manual that just arrived by mail to read that petrol and diesel have the same diff ratios.
So now we have a complete set of spare diffs.

Petrol/diesel gearboxes are identicle bar for the top covers.
Petrol units run a 9" clutch while the diesels run a 9.5" clutch.
As for the 327 power plant you have I'd look into a 260mm clutch plate from a 99TDI Nissan and use the std holden V8 pressureplate ... just converted mine to this formula after I blew the 3rd diesel clutch pak

I have a 110 it fitted where the fuel tank was and a 50 lit fitted up beside the transfer, and a custom petrol tank that is between the rear LPG tank and the rear chassis member, it holds 38 lits .
I had a 465 gas carby here but deleted it.... over rated !!!, I'm working on my own design and may have a conversion availiable soon.
Help much appreciated.

Dont forget that there is one other difference in the 2 boxes Kingy, The bellhousings are different, The both bolt on the the box but the starter motor is on the opposite side in the petrol.

Thanx gents but i have found out the hard way.The diesel gearbox/transfer case sits about 2 to 3 inches further back than in the petrol version,so even if i wanted to remove the chev donk and fit it to the diesel it would become a huge job,tail shafts-gearbox/transfer mounts etc.It looks like im keepen the petrol chev patrol instead,it has a killer body,no rust in any of the floor-roof-rad support-fire wall nothing.
Ill just sell the diesel rig,after all the work i did.Dooooooooooooooh

Tell me was/is all of your v8 converted patrols petrol before the conversion? or have you got/had diesel shells converted before .I cant say that ive heard anything about different transfer mounting positions between petrol/diesel MQ's before,even when i looked into adapter kits.I did find out that these MQ's were made in four different countrys around asia and all were different.I can fit the 327 to me black diesel rig but the motor will sit dam close to the fire wall,may even hit,but that looks ruff.Im shattered that i may have to part with my black rig.(shit happens i guess)

I cant say that ive heard anything about different transfer mounting positions between petrol/diesel MQ's before,even when i looked into adapter kits.
Most of the 135 mm differance is done by the actuall transfer to chassis mounts them selves, if you take a look you'll see there are 2 extra boltholes where the trensfer mounts sit ( on 1 side), the otherside has a differant mount to suit either petrol or diesel.
I did find out that these MQ's were made in four different countrys around asia and all were different.

get a 5 spd from a 87 MQ / MK, this will push the motor foward the exact amount you are lacking for the swap.... 135mm !!!!

My kits from a Petrol, and my rig is a deisel, though im using a petrol bellhousing and the adapter plate ive got is over 3 inches thick!!! If there are problems i hope they are only small, though i do have an expert at the game on my side

Kingy,ive put some pics above of the front tail shafts and the gearbox mount differences between my diesel/petrol mq's.Ill post the pics of the engine and adapter fittment shortly.The adapter is a inch steal plate between the bellhousing and the engine,i have no idea of the type of bellhousing.I also have another unit out of a butchered mq v8 that has a inch and a quarter adapter between the gearbox and the bellhousing,do you know of this type?

that 1 inch plate is where your probs will be, mine is over 3 inches literaly, so i wont have the prob with the motor on the firewall.
Also with my kit the Flywheel is 3 inches thicker too before the teeth start at the end of it. Ways a fair bit, but its a marks it so i assume it all works

My kit will fit perfect in an L28 patrol ( at least the bellhousing of the L28 gearbox ), the deisel with the L28 bellhousing will fit too. THATS IF U USE A STANDARD V8 HOLDEN PATTERN.

Diff ratios MQ
These are the ratios for the MQ as per the Genuine booklet that i have 4.375:1 (turbo diesel hardtop & deluxe wagon). 4.875:1 ( cab/ chassis SD33 & pick- up SD330).4.111:1 (wagon P40). 4.625:1 (others).
