Post by stumped »

the 31's are scrubbing the firewall inside of the guard, so i need to massage it a bit... anything i need to look out for? any technique/advice for the massaging, or just use a lumpy?

first use some pliers to bend the seams to one side, so that when you hit it, it will bend to the same side at the root of the seam

then tap the seams flat with small hammer

i tapped horizontal seams downwards and vertical seams inwards

then get a bigger hammer and bash it good

seams are done, just need the big hammer

is it worth having something between the metal and the hammer to spread the force of the hit more evenly?

Yeah .. I had paint between the metal and the hammer :D
Just belt it good and hard moving your blows around so that the thing is moveing evenly

Very similar to mud, a little more permanent and not as much fun ...

Also make sure that after you belt the firewall that you can still get the throttle wide open (not normally a problem, but worth checking) as the accelerator may not go down as far

that's what i was after... haven't actually seriously looked at it yet, but was wondering if bashing the firewall was gonna affect the pedals at all. i guess that's one of the reasons for moving the diff forward a bit

The norm is to stop the bashing before you get inboard enough to affect the accelerator. However, if you have to go that far accross - you can remove the bolt/bracket that are on the floor stopping the accelerator - then you can put the pedal right to the floor.

If your 31's are fouling the firewall that much i would think that either:

a. your offset is massive
b. your running some very wide tyres
c. you could benefit from a body lift
d. you could benefit from running some rear spring up front and moving that front axel forward just a tad

I could still get my 31's to rub the firewall with 31's and SPOA .. bumpstops were in the same place :D

Think of it this way,

If you do RUF after bashing in the firewall then people will be able to see a mangled firewall.

Looks like a good chance to do RUF to me :)

RB... no shame being out driven by em, only in being out driven by a roza :D

layton.... can't come over this weekend, heading to qld for a music fest  maybe next week sometime, or bring a hammer to wallaroo

RUF sounds the goods, but $$ constraints hold me back  antt's solution sounds like the one, fits in with the current appearance of the zook :D
