i recently purchased a diesel 96 hilux, and the tacho is shitting me up the wall so i want to fix it, my tacho reads 3000rpm or so higher lol, on idle the tacho reads 3000rpm and goes up from there, im not sure where it gets signal from, but the previous owner said it done it ever since the alternator was replaced?? its the alt was with the pump on the front, any ideas???? i think the alt is a ebay special lol

yes i think it gets its signal from the alternator and maybe it is the wrong one for the car or a smaller pulley has been used

I think the Tacho picks up the signal from the fuel pump.
