Update

My original post stated a new motor this was incorrect and it was a rebuilt/reconditioned motor...

Well after involvement from the WA Consumer Protection guys Brunswick have agreed to repair the vehicle and return within three days at no cost to my parents although they have offered to extend the warranty for another full 12 months for $2,000 (still have 5 months left on current warranty). My parents have decided not to give them another cent.

It sounds like the WA Consumer Protection were very helpful and actually had good knowledge of vehicles, oils, etc.

My thanks to Longlix for that link and to others who have also help provide background and information in relation to this issue.

Again it appears to be buyer beware and it is important to get feedback on people you intend to use and that you cannot always trust what someone (even an expert) tells you.

Thanks everyone.

That's a very good outcome for your parents. Was there any indication of what actually went wrong?

Trying to fit a turbo in there is a super pain in the ass in most vehicles.

Banks do a kit, but it doesnt fit most aussie cars with these motors.
I can see it being easier than a turbo, but superchargers don't match diesels at all.
Superchargers are better suited than turbo's for a large number of applications.

The real down side to it is, its harder to intercool them, and they run at less efficiency than a turbo + draw power from the motor to run it.
The upside is they can provide ALOT more torque from lower in the rev range than a turbo setup and an equal amount in the top end.

However the drawbacks outweigh the positives in most applications. But as you said, on these motors its 10 times easier to supercharge it.

To the OP - Good to hear all is sorted, and good on them for telling them to stick their $2K extra warranty.

My parents neven heard of the final reason for the issue, although on the report from the engiene reconditioners they asked what oil was being used and if any contaminates were in the oil. My parents used the oil recommeded to them by Brunswick and never had the motor appart or open.

So no final outcome of why motor died.

They now have the vehicle back and are underway with caravan in tow heading north and all appears to be good.
