Which Brand of Auto Lokker

Post by 4_low »

So i have decided to put an auto lokker in my Hilux,

I have been looking at a few brands mainly Spartan and Lockright lokker, Which is the best brand out there and are there any difference in build or quality that i should look for.

Thanks

I used a Richmond Gears Lockright Locker from the USA in a SWB GQ running 33's a few years ago and had no dramas at all despite everything I threw at it. :)

I've got a richmond lockright in my cj7 no problems handles everything the 360 throws at it, we just fitted a loka from 4wd systems into my mates comp truck and smashed the pins but that is turning 39.5 tyres driving devils marbles at tuff truck.

Had a Lock right in my Lux and it was awesome. The Spartans look to be a good thing as well, but the Lock right is proven and parts are more easily available. I guess it comes down to price.

I'm running a Detroit Softlocker (nice and quiet) in my Cherokee with 35's. Works great and good on the road as well.

Cheers

i have a lokka from 4wd systems, i loved it, ( ute is currently dead with no gearbox ither) motors rings decided they would take a holiday.

but if i had the coin( and being that we are getting a great exchange rate) i would go for the detroit soft locker, best of the soft lockers, i would go for a full carrier replacement, as then your still left with the stock carrier, and the pin through the center, and they will be your week point and likely breaking point.

i ran the pin through my ring gears and compleatly cracked my carrier housing, and that was just with an open diff,

4WD systems lokka with 35x12.5's
NEVER AGAIN
works fine dont get me wrong, but the noise has to be heard to be believed. If this is your daily/drive to work/ punt around the carpark car then i definately DO NOT reccomend it. Weekend warrior, sure thing.

Ours is getting swapped to a selectable locker soon

never had an issue with noise with my lokka, occasional pinging when the locker teeth werent ingaged (from coming around a corner or changing lanes and stopping), but i striped the diff down to have a look, and everything was A1, i never had any clunking or chatter ot even banging when changing lanes, like i said only issue was when i came to a stop after turning.

id definitely recommend them, but i feel a full carrier replacement auto locker is the best choice
