As stated in the "setting up solid spacer in diff centre post"
I have a 80 series rear diff centre with an air locker. I just got new nitro crownwheel and pinion and a full rebuild kit from locktup4x4 with a solid pinion spacer. I got a local well known 4x4 shop to rebuild it for me for $450. I picked it up and all looked good. I put it in yesterday morning and took it around the block. Noticed something didnt feel right. It looked alright when I put it in. After I removed the drive shaft he pinion flange moves up and down about 10mm and also in and out about 10mm. WTF!!!! Now I cant go away for easter.
Is there any damage I should look out for and get them to replace.
Does it need new bearings now? Crown wheel or pinion damage? Help needed asap.

Re: Expert diff centre advice!!
There's a really good chance gears and bearings will be damaged. Has the pinion nut come loose? I'd be getting the shop to replace bearings at a minimum but would push for gear replacement even if there is no visible damage. Sounds like they really farked something up there unfortunately. Was there any preload on the pinion before you put it in? ( there should be considerable resistance when turning the flange by hand)
In fact the only way you could be getting 10mm play is if the inner bearing has disintegrated completely.

When I checked it by hand before I put it in. It looked alright for backlash and tension. The nut has not come loose. It is still spiked into position. Something is seriously not right. I doubt that the bearing has disintergrated completely. I only drove it around the block. Something was definately NOT SET UP RIGHT. If I knew that the spacer was right and gear marking was correct I would just retension the nut for the time being. But considering everything is brand new. Im not going to touch it. My dad says they will want me to pull it out and bring it into them. Ive said no f#cking way. I will tilt tray it the whole truck to them and they can fix it. Im not wasting anymore time on these boso's dropping oil. Getting new gaskets etc etc.
Im seriously p%ssed off.
Ive had weeks and weeks of stuff ups, re gearbox and transfer completely rebuilt, only to find transfer does not engage an I have no 4 wheel drive. Plus and oil leak and 3rd crunches and slips out of gear very easily.

I will do the right thing and give them the chance to fix it and rectify everything the way it should be. But if they dont play the game and try and shaft me, I will tell my story all over the forums and name them.
