Wiring for 40l Engel fridge?

Hi all,

Going to wire up the engel tomorrow for the fraser trip on wed! Going to wire it from the bat to a 30amp fuse with 6mm wire, from that to an on/off switch on the dash then out to the front of the tray with an anderson connection to the fridge. Is this the norm or is there a better way? Also what ampage anderson connectors should I get for it?

6 mm cable is what would run you can use a 50 amp anderson plug as for the switch in the dash i would run that through a relay as it will probly burn out the switch try and use a 40 amp circuit breaker that way you wont need to carry fuses for it or you blow a fuse and you lose all the food your carrying

Engel only uses 5 amps maximum current, but you need to minimise voltage drop along the length of the cable run.

6mm cable and a decent earth would be good. You will only need a 10 amp fuse. Using a relay to do the switching is safer than using a switch with the 6 mm cable, can also shorten the run to batt - relay + fuse (adjacent) - fridge, rather than running heavy cable through to the dash area then out again to go to the rear of the vehicle.

Hi Steve, as grubb and DAMKIA suggest, use a relay not a switch, but why do you need to switch this cable on and off?

As far as the cable goes, you are better off running 6mm Auto TWIN all the way from the battery to the fridge and you need to fit a 20 amp in-line fuse at the battery.

While the fridge may only low current, you may at some time use something with a higher current draw and you could end up either melting or blowing a 10 amp fuse. A 20 amp fuse will safely protect 6mm Auto cable and your fridge should have it’s own fuse.

Also you can just use a cigarette lighter socket to connect the fridge.
