Airbox & Snorkel Issue

Post by johnny_k »

Hey,

As u can see by this pic.. My snorkel is not connected as you can see by the mud all over everything. Its very important I fix this soon before I drown my engine.

The person who I bought the vehicle off bought the wrong snorkel and tried to make it work.. & failed.

Now as you can see i need to do a complete 180 degree turn to be able to mount this snorkel.. However - Here in Toowoomba I cannot find anyone that is able to provide a solution to this..

I have tried truck and tractor stores and no-one had hoses a sufficient size to be able to do this.

I have tried to fit other toyo airboxes. I think the 1 from the 1hz was closest however the mounts are off and I would then not only have to relocate the washer bottle, but also the radiator overflow.

Im not sure what this air box is from (i now have 3 sitting round :bad-words: ). However the original airbox (from 3b) wont work either as the air intake comes out at 270 deg as opposed to the one pictured coming out at 180.

Any helpful ideas welcomed.

That snorkel is for an HZJ79 or similar, I had the same one. Buy an HZJ79 airbox and it will bolt right up.

I tried what i was told was the correct model airbox for this snorkel but couldnt get the airbox to fit properly. But i'll double check with that model airbox 2.

Thanks

Cut the top and bottom off the airbox can and flip the middle so the hose outlet faces the other way, or cut the hose outlet area off and do similar.

thats what happens when u get different model stuff to try n fit on your car. just cut and weld till u can make it fit. im sure your snorkel is more important to u than a washer bottle and overflow  just by looking at the engine bay.

If you don't have luck sourcing the 79 series airbox, then a 2nd option (seriously, go the factory parts if you can, makes life easier) would be to just source a mandrel bend of the appropriate diameter to match the snorkel, then trim it to shape to blend into the airbox. Then remove/patch or just cap the existing inlet, from a mates HZJ73 I can tell you that a vegemite lid may be the right diameter for capping the original inlet.

I was kinda hoping somone had a similar issue and new of somewhere the might stock a form of hose that will solve my issue.. I might take the advice and find somone with a welder and cut up the airbox's and using the combination, create a hybrid that will work.

Thanks everyone for your ideas.
