R150 to 3RZ? Bellhousing??

Post by Lux_89 »

Hi there all,

I have managed to destroy my g52, low n behold, behind my turbo 3rz.. basically, an R151f would be what i want, but what i want n what i can get is worlds apart.. Does anyone know how a w56 is for strength? And what bellhousing i should be chasing to mate it to my 2.7?

Thanks, Chris

Know someone with a R150f they may be persuaded to part with ;)
Think 1st is a bit taller but if you have gears it won't be much different.

As far as I remember G52 is rated to 120hp W56 is to 160hp and R series is to 220hp.

Am told you use a 2TRFE belhousing (current model hilux 2.7 petrol ?) with std 3RZ clutch kit & 3RZ clutch slave cylinder.

Maybe someone who has actually done it can confirm ?

yer the current shape 2.7 works a treat. they cum out with a r150 n the 2wd veriaty standard. if u have a look at the blocks aswell ull find that a 2trfe is just a 3rzfe with a different head and the accesories bolted on in a different pattern. they did this 2 try and improove emission conrol.

if worst cums to worst and u cant get ur hands on one get a automatic bellhousing of a 3rz... there is an adaptor plate u can have laser cut to convert 2 a r series box. the cad files are forsale on ebay constantly. just type in r154 and they will cum up. they are listed as a conversion for a 1uz but if u know ur toyotas the 1uz, 1jz, 2jz, 3vz, 5vz, 3rz and most of the auto diesals use the a34** auto gearbox variety. i put the last to stars on that number coz the last 2 vary due to it being in a 4wd of having a higher rated valve body or gear ratios but the exteriour case is the same so they can use the same adaptor plate.

hope this has helped u mate

Great info.
With your adaptor plate fitted to auto bellhousing does the gearbox input shaft need to be longer because of the adaptor or any other mods required ?
How long have you been running one of these converted belhousings ?

Yep, 2TR bellhousing bolts up. You have to be sure to get a box with the right input shaft length...there are two on the R151F, and you need the shorter one. Not sure if it's the same with R150F

You may have difficulty finding a wrecker happy to sell a bellhousing by itself. I got mine from GoldCoast 4x4 wreckers at Southport for $120, IIRC...

the laser cut adaptor plate is the right length for my 1jz/r151 combo and the 1jz use the same auto gearbox as a 3rz. so im asuming they would be quite similar. but if u do run into trouble and the input shaft for the box is to long u can have in machined down. and if its 2 short there are a few gearbox specialist that will extend the input shaft for u aswell..
