4.5 Gu into a 4.2 GQ

Post by gdjenna »

I know this must have been covered somewhere but stuffed if i can find it if so can someone direct me to it.

Anyhow my 97 GQ looks like she has done the head (gasket ) in at the least and has already been rebuilt one before from what i have been told and has 400+ ks on it. The Body of the car is imaculate hence wanting to keep her.
I was looking at getting a low k 4.5l from a GU but is it a simple swap and what do i need to look out for.

Just did one last week, mechanically it is a bolt is swap, just need to stuff around with rad hoses a bit. Get a GU 4.5 fuel sender unit with the intank pump. Upgrade fuel hoses to high pressure lines.
Wiring was fairly straight forward, However to use the factory ECU the NATS immobiliser system also needs to be wired in. This is fairly simple, but you will need the key, barrell and immob module from the same vehicle as the motor.
