Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
Fox and Kings is chalk and cheese.
If you want the best built than Kings is so much better quality than fox
( my personal opinion is fox is crap compared to whats on the market now) and i dont care what anyone has to say as we have had both brands apart on the shock bench, we have also cut apart a lot of the other brands on the market and kings is above them all.
BUT REMEMBER THE SHOCK IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE VALVING JOB THAT IS DONE ON IT !
I would like to get a Bilstein blackhark 9300 to pull apart if someone want's to donate one for a few days

Here is a link

I am sure now the next posts you will get is F>>>> thats expensive you can purchase KINGS OR FOX out of the states for $250 each or something stupid, the difference is Kings that are done from Brad Zakka ( Kings Australia) are valved to suit the GQ or GU patrol with the correct fittings so they are a bolt in kit already to go and they will ride and handle as they should.

Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
why are fox so popular in the offroad racing circles if they are apparantly shit ?
generally those guys dont skimp on shocks at all as shock performance is paramount .

Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
There are a lot of factors why people use and wear certain things, why do you wear fox clothing and the next guy wear's offroad cartel, free world personnal taste as well as many factors like price deals , sponsorship , eas of parts, ease of service , locality of dealers , i could keep going on here for hours but i am sure you get the point that i am saying.

wtf is that , seriously you call out a brand like fox and say its shit then roll off that as an answer to a serious
question , the shocks on pro buggys cop a massive hiding and substandard shocks would not be an option as
they wouldnt last in races like finke or gasc dash etc so i dont think your points are really relevent . my questioning
is not from a biased point of view as i use walker evans shocks but as i say foxes popularity would not be where
it is from selling substandard product to the pffroad racing fraternity in fact if they did they would have the worst
reputation on the face of the earth . considering either can be purchased cheaply from down south motor sports
i seriously doubt price or parts availability is an issue as they provide as good service. so i guess i dont get your point .
which parts are the shit ones ?

If you want some real advice on off road suspension setups I suggest heading over to
http://www.mcasuspension.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Certainly not cheap, but well worth the price tag.

I gave a general reply to why some might choose different brand over others.
I do not have any photos or relevent information here at home to post up so thats why you got that basic answer.
QUALITY does not always play a part why some customers certain brands, if you think that statement is incorrect than thats your choice and you are far from reality.
You have posted a link for 2.5 coil overs this post is for straight bolt in replacements for a patrol .
To get technical you need the specs on the different model kings and fox and compare, if you really want you come to our workshop and pull some kings down if you have the comparable fox, take the photos, do the measurements, compare fittings and quality , i think we have one of each model there , then you will be able to do your own judgment, i am sure at the end of it you will agree with me that kings is better, not in every aspect but overall.
I should have been a bit more careful in what i said and not been so lazy in my reply , maybe i should have stated it like this " fox are not the quality that everyone thinks they are " instead of
( my personal opinion is fox is crap compared to whats on the market now)
Unfortunately i dont have photos of any shocks internals here at home so i wont be posting anything up tonight, i am sure we have a series of comparable photos of many of the different shocks at work.
hopefully thats a bit of a clearer post.

Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
Fox shocks for quality and performance.
King shocks for support and because they are what all the 'new' cool kids have.
Both can be revalved. If you can rebuild one shock you can rebuild them all.
Fox shocks have cheaper replacement parts compared to some other brands.
My vote is get the Fox shocks. You won't look back.
On a more personal note; In particular in Australia I would stay away from King shocks. A number of the people involved with King shocks (Australia) are unwelcome in my house.
Luke.

Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
I have heard some hilarious stories about King Racing shocks australia specifically with poor shock builds and poor customer service & after sales support but I have never dealt with them so could be dramatised a current affair style trash talk with Tracy Grimjaw.lukethedork wrote:Fox shocks for quality and performance.

Mind you I have also spoken to a few people who've been clever and bought their junk (Fox, King, Bilstein) from the USA and fitted it up only to find valving is different between the shocks or different nitrogen charge etc lol.
In saying this I still risked it and bought some Bilstein 5160 (assembled in the USA, vehicle specific series). I am quite pleased with them compared to the Old Man Emu, lovells, procomp, Edelbrock, Konis etc I have tried in the past. Jury is out as to how long they last (being built by americans, and going by my American built car I am guessing not long before one of them shits itself).
Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
Ring Brent from wizard he has bolt in fox shocks an the valving for patrols he has them in his own car so has played with valving. I bort some for a mate an put them in his Gu ute an am happy with how them bolt in an ride.
They are about $420 or there abouts a shock you can also by the bolt ins from sonny from down south I bort some from him not bolt in ones but the valving is good for my Gu ute for racing.
Hope that helps.

Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
IIRC my Koni shocks were made in Holland.
I was surprised because I would have expected Koni/ITT to have outsourced production to China like every other self-respecting manufacturer.
Koni is owned by ITT which is a US-based conglomerate.

Re: Fox bolt in smoothies vs King bolt ins
We have been selling the Bilsteins that bolt into the Patrol which give an awesome ride and no failures. We get the valving and the ends changed to suit the Patrol. More info on my web site.
