4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
This has probably been posted a million times but i am after the most current info .
Who has had a pump/ turbo combination successfully built for them to achieve 350+ RWHP in a patrol 4.2 TD.
( for this post i am not talking about all the internal work and extra add ons just 2 things, the pump and turbo )
Any business's that reply, please back up your info with real figures and dyno figures not estimates or guess's and you can PM or email me pricing if you like as i am in a hurry to get a TD42 ready for it's next race.

Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
Mick.
300hp is not achievable out of a TD42 without some extremely major internal work, let alone 350 .
Even then, Heath's old car with every last possible modification made to the engine made something like 298-299hp at the wheels, which is a good 20-30hp more than any other TD42 thats been on our dyno.
We have built alot of TD42's for racing that make around the 240hp mark and survive for a very long time under hard conditions.
Im sure you have our contact details if you want to know how much more can be made and what needs to be done to achieve it.
It comes down to what the vehicle is used for though? Does it need a big wide power band? or only big hp from 3200rpm to 4000rpm?

300 - 350+ is acheivable in my opinion .
With all due respect Northside4x4 there are Diesel trucks out their over 300HP just because you have not succeded in this does not make it impossible by any means.

Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
the reason I have posted is because I have run most of these '300hp TD42's' numerous time in comps at cruiser park and at our shop.
Some of them nearly made 300hp at 35psi @ 14:1 Fuel ratio.
Heath's truck made it at 25psi @ 17:1 fuel ratio with a useable torque curve of 2800-4800rpm.
But, to make it interesting. once you have built your 350hp truck bring it in for a run.
Hell if it makes over 300hp ill even donate $500 to your cause for being right
Looking forward to hearing from the shops that make the power you are chasing, will be an interesting read.

I Didn't mean to sound rude if i came across that way earlier but i know your business is not the only business in the country that can build fast diesel's otherwise there would be a lot of engines built by you racing up CQ and the fastest diesels at LCMP are not your's otherwise i would have picked up the phone and called you in person.

Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
Its possible but will need a lot of fuel, air and a monster intercooler. I would think you need a pump that delivers over 230cc fuel at 1000 shots.
The highest vehicle over our dyno made 200rwkw, gt2876 turbo, our pump. It was smokey and high on egt's. To make a broad useable power band I think you need either a vnt that zac is using or a compound turbo system.
Then there is the reliability of it all. Yes I think it can be done and made reliable, it just involves a lot of money and time.
Andy
Yes I can post a graph tomorrow of the 200rwkw output.

Why? not everyone want`s to have a dyno crank off? What the hell would $500 be a insentive for? build a fast td42 and make everone beat it !Don`t just sit back and call everyone lyers! We know the hp of these things and the reliability (The work ute also still runs a modded boost compensator so it`s clean in town by the way)Shawn lives for this stuff mate and the proof if you want it was at lcmp in every event it won it it`s class and others. If you still arn`t convinced you`ll have to wait till next year!! Hi Billy,
Kevi contacted Shaun today to discuss our option's and Shaun is more than pleased to do us up a quote for what we will need to acheive this sort of power . ( good to see guys think outside of the square )
I think his setup was around the 320HP from what kev mentioned, that would be an awesome improvement on what kev has at the moment.
Now just waiting on the quote

Sounds good Mick!Just a point of interest too don`t look too hard a top hp figures there is alot more in this stuff than meets the eye.Your definatle going the safest way. There is alot to be said for a setup thats proven especislly in a race format.Eveyone wants a setup that you bolt on and go and shred tyres and win races,I look at it like this, if it was that easy everyone would be doing it.Cheers Billy..

Just thought id add this to the topic , Nissan Td42 STD Bottom end , mild
head work , STD cam , Front mount intercooler , OUR PUMP, OUR EXHAUST
MANIFOLD , OUR INTAKE PLENUIM , OUR TURBO SPEC . We get good
results and the car has been quite reliable AND IT REVS AND MAKES POWER!!
I always worry we do work for someone and someone gets it just to pull it
apart , it has been alot of time (personal / Work) To come up with
something that works , many hours on the test bench !!!! and it helps we
understand that its the whole package not just one component.
Im sorry about the inconsistant line on dyno graph my pizo is a bit over the
place causing the change in constant line , but it gives you a good enough
idea.
Alot of people struggle to get what HP we are making At 5000RPM As their
max HP . But i dont get caught up on figures, i just use our dyno as a
comparater with what we do . WE dont race dyno's We race cars!

Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
Willy your posts are very hard to read mate.
The reason I offered is not incentive to build a 300hp TD42.
Its because I have heard it all before, and run dozzens of '300-350hp' TD42's at competitions and dyno days etc... Still yet to have one break over 280hp and Ive heard every excuse under the sun mate.
Im not questioning that they are good race trucks with lots of power etc... Nor was I the one asking for XXX kw from the motor.
My question would have been what setup can I use in a comp truck for good power between this RPM and that RPM with Longevity in mind for the motor.
Response would have been, intercooler and intake system, custom turbo, water/methanol setup slight pump mods will get you around 180-190kw atw Safely with next to no smoke.
I dont mind if what it ends up with is a motor on the ragged edge that bellows black smoke every time you give it a poke
We do plenty of rebuilds and resetting up of race trucks like that as it is, thats why I havnt pushed the point I was making earlier.
Offer is open though anyone with a decent HP patrol feel free to bring it in anytime for a free dyno run.

Ah ther ya go a dyno chart proof of a TD42 making 300+hp there it is yahoo
Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
Why are you revving it past 3200,its not making any more power, infact its dropping of dramatically in power and torque. I like to set them up so they ramp up from 2000 to 4000 making peak power at around 4000 with governed rpm being 4400 for just in case ya need a couple of hundred more.sswaffie wrote:Just thought id add this to the topic , Nissan Td42 STD Bottom end , mild

Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
Well i rev it past it because it still makes good HP and the car still moves
forward at a great rate of knots, im not getting into a discussion about why
i do this and you do it different etc i have my reasons for things and
soforth , This car is very fast and iv found it quite reliable well i havn't had
a problem and have been racing it for quiet some time with good results!
And yes on smaller scale / Hp combinations we alter components to alter
how and where these things make their power . i have plenty of dyno sheets
with different options / power deliveries but its dependant on what tool to
do the job so to speak.

looking at making what we do better and not worry about what the

figures down should probaly ask anyone who has seen the car go and ask

Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
With so many people keen to have a crack at getting the most out the TD42 in there own soecial way the i guess the skys the limit and noones setup is the perfect setup as there are a number of ways to achieve it.
A lot of people can build a dyno queen but as we all know we race these cars and they need to last, i know our setup and yours and several other do that well and make good power.
The skys the limit and i just wish i had more time to dedicate to the cause.

Unless you're talking about a pump capable of 230 but dialled back so it delivers the needed fuel (half that much) in a much shorter burst. Because that makes perfect sense.

i dont know a lot about diesel tech have had a few different patrols td42t, a worked 351 clevo, 350 chev, currently a inj 454, have been in a duramax gu on the 550hp setting. I have seen swaffies shorty and i presume its been transplanted into the customised wagon that was there on the weekend. the only words i can think off to accurately describe it are " HOLY SHIT BATMAN, THAT THING GOES ".
what you guys are building up there is unreal to see. when basically the 2 fastest trucks there (as far as i noticed, the special wagon and green ute) are a petrol and a diesel from I presume the same stable something is going well in your water send me a bottle.
the guys can build tough trucks and drive them even better. not a brown noser and I wouldnt know you and vica versa if we bumped into each other out there but keep doing what you are doing as I enjoy watching ya.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..
Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
Well i think that this post has alot of peoples eyes open its good to see. TD42S will never move forward with people saying that it cant be done. I also think that $ 500 to take a car to northside would be good but would cost more in diesel to get there we need some insentive put up $ 5000 and see what happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT COSTS MONEY TO BRING A CAR DOWN FROM ROCKHAMPTON

Surely this information is not top secret??????? It's basic information so that throughout Australia we can compare apples with apples, not apples with bananas.

When comparing hp on a dyno dynamics you should run in "shootout mode" that way no values can be changed to 'inflate' figures and you get an across the board comparison that is dead accurate from state to state (or wherever), give or take a few hp for temp, humidity differences.
I was merely asking because it doesn't say anywhere on that dyno graph that it was in shootout mode. Either way it's a very powerful td42 and congrats to swaffie
Re: 4.2 Injector pump for Big HP
As far as i am concerned if they wont tell you the mode it is run in, it's bullshit mode.
No secrets are given away by stating the dyno settings, tyre size and diff ratio's
