winches

Post by mudtoy »

Jeez fellas...I can't believe the level of mi-information shooting around here...Tmax, R+L, Ox electric and Brawn all come from the same factory in China. When they land every one rebadges them and puts them on the shelves except Colin Pond who owns Brawn. He strips out the wiring, replaces it all, sand blasts the motors and magnets, electro plates them all and reassembles the things with silicone seals, water proof grease and o-rings...no one else does. This is why they are corrosion, rust and water proof.
I have run my Brawn in winch comps and co drove for others running theirs.
Other winches I have owned were rebuilt every 2-3 months. The Brawn has been on the bar for almost two years and I haven't touched it...it pulls first time every time.
The Brawn draws less current, produces less heat, pulls harder and has a more efficient brake system.
I have pulled an 80 series 7 straight 30m pulls up a hill and the gear box was hotter than the motor. I regularly mud race and submerge it and only ever wash down the Brawn synthetic rope...it's probably the most reliable thing on my truck.
Finally, whilst some winches are rated at max pull, which they can't achieve in the real world, the Brawn 9500lb will pull 13000lbs...it's not fast by any strecth at that load but it is still pulling and not catching fire!

thanks for that info mudtoy
the reason the brawn dont have fins is because colin belives they dont need cooling because the brush holders are steel unlike the warns which are plastic
in other words the plastic melts so needs cooling and the steel cant melt within the winch so no need for cooling
thats colins opinion so dont have a go at me for it

oh bruce he hasnt yet made the hi mounts coz hes waiting for a bigger motor

brawn

Brawn does have the big motor just not the time to finish the winch. I have designed the fail safe brake and had a bit to do with the housing. It is planned to have an air operated brake, be air cooled and have an air operated clutch.
Colin is slowly getting there though.

Its only the 4.6 Warns that have the plastic Bushes. The early ones had steel.
