80 series turbo diesel main fuel guage stopped working

hey all does anyone know what could cause a diesel main fuel guage to stop working it was all fine and it just stopped

Gauge in dash may have failed (it happens although rarely). Broken wire somewhere, sender in tank stuffed.

Really it could be one of many things. I'd start by removing dash and checking the wires responsible for fuel level signal if theyve got power then its the dash. Sender is also simple just get your multimeter on the wires at the tank if nothing then senders stuffed, if theyre good but nothing at dash then you got a short or a broken wire.
93 RV, 5 in tough dog lift, dobinsons shocks and coils, PA, dual fuel, many many oil leaks and a ton of character.

Maybe the sender itself is gone will still get fuel but level will not change

You forgot to mention in the 1st post it was stuck half way. That happens when the tank baffles are loose.

if you're lucky scotty you have a later model car and you can remove an inspection plate in the floor and get your sender out. Then feel around for the baffle that has come loose and cut it up with a pair of tin snips and remove the pieces. If yours isn't a late model then you will need to remove the tank

He will be fine, they all have the inspection hole on the floor.

yea i have an inspection plate in the floor i went racing for 3 days and all the shaking must of buggerd the baffles in the tank?

Shit of a job that would be then. That one must have been the prototype body :lol: I had a 1990 GXL and it had both cutouts on the floor :?

Mine is the same. I changed it out for a new 1. Worked for 1 day then the needle went down and stayed there. I have been told mine is a pinched/broken wire. Im yet to fix it
