Does anyone know the 'technical' name for this gasket/flange?
My manual just calls it a gasket, but because the rocket scientists at my local repco have 0 training about anything related to cars or 4wds, they can't order me one.
I gave up trying to explain to them where it was located when I kept being told it was part of the 'swivel housing'.
It's on a BJ42 full floater rear axle. Mines made out of rust, but I assume it was once steel, maybe with a rubber seal on the inside edge?
Might be obvious but the arrow just shows where it bolts on the brake drum backing plate.

Re: 40 Series: Name this part
thats a gasket yes, made from paper.
Over the years the paper has been replaced by rust and dirt and whatnot.
You dont need it, just use some locktite 515 or some Locktite Blue gasket maker.
Edit: Could have been a steel gasket, with a raised center section once upon a time. Toyota may call it a shim possibly?

Re: 40 Series: Name this part
Yes made of steel, raised inner section (99% certain the center has a rubber seal), and raised lip around the outer edge.
Looks like it's designed to seal with the hub and help prevent oil leaking onto the brakes. Or maybe stop dust getting inside the hub.
Picture of what it looks like in a manual. This one calls it a seal. Top left

**Edit: Would that number be its part number for toyota?

Re: 40 Series: Name this part
would you not get the part if you ordered a axel seal KIT??? i would have thought the who lot came with it,
" You can't fix it if you don't break it "
Re: 40 Series: Name this part
Problem solved, that is the part number. Cheers
Re: 40 Series: Name this part
That seal does not come in any kit, and im told is usualy is not replaced, unless its farked! (like mine were)
I had the same problem when ordering it from repco aswell, you need to speak to someone who has a clue at using thier computer, and then they will quickly find the seal on thier exploded parts diagram.
It is the Hub Dust Seal and is a metal ring with a rubber seal around the middle which seals on the back of the hub.

Re: 40 Series: Name this part
That should be the outer dust hub seal, just keeps the dust and mud out of the rear wheel bearing hub seal.
worked at repco part time for years now, let me know how u go otherwise i will search it up at work and get a part code for you, pm me the details and i will let you know and i can go in and search it up.
repco should have pictures on the new system to match it up anyway
