Air Lockers from the US/Europe?

I'm probably going to be shot down by all the Aussie business owners for asking this.... but hey, I'm not that flush with cash and will grab something cheaper where possible for the time being and with the Aussie $$ climbing, may work better for me.

Looking to compare prices for an RD135 Air Locker from oversea's suppliers and see if it'll work out cheaper being imported. Done a google but couldn't quite find what I'm looking for. Can someone point me to online stores or places that sell this model locker?? I don't think the GQ patrol was ever sold/or popular in the US so prob why I couldn't find that specific model No, not so sure about Europe though.

On another note, what's the difference between an RD135a & RD135b. I have a GQ rear diff H233 with disk brakes if that helps.

Mate I'm with you on that but I found postage was the killer but still worked out cheeper then here in aus. And I've seen a cost price air locker receipt. They have a100% mark up on them here.

Contact Darren at Mental 4X4 he will give you a better price then all the big shops on air leakers. The shop is in St Marys

look up 123 engines for postage from states and ebay sometimes you get free postage in states.

I have recently purchased 2 ARB lockers and RP gears from the states , came in 2 boxes . Delivered to my door was Under a Gorilla $$$per box.
They were for a jeep though.

I work between AUS and the USA and have been looking at sending parts home for a while.

If you use freight companies like UPS and FEDEX freight will be $200 plus per package. Alot of 'seller's use this form of freight as it is fully insured and the easiest and most guaranteed option for delivery for them which kills most of the $$$ you save.

The best option I have found id through USPS (United States Posted Service) - they have flat rate shipping boxes. A 'Large' Box up to a maximum 20lb weight (approx 10 kg) is $55 shipped from USA to anywhere in the world. I can't remember the dimension of the box but it should be big enough - basically if it fits in the box it ships. You can insure the package too at additional charge but unsure of rate. You can post your own individual sized package but works put similar rates to FEDEX and UPS for 10lb weight.

Ask the seller if they can deliver this way for you - USPS is the equivelent of Aus Post so they are everywhere and handle everyday mail .

I recently sent 2 packages this way to Brisbane with no dramas.

Best deals I have seen for lockers is $800ish on ebay to suit cruiser but this was best part of a year ago.

USPS won't ship items over a certain weight, try DHL is you are after another price. Pretty sure they will be a bit cheaper than UPS.

USPS won't ship items over a certain weight, try DHL is you are after another price. Pretty sure they will be a bit cheaper than UPS.

Can someone shed some light on the average dimensions and weight of an ARB locker??

not sure, but the USPS flat rate international box is 12"x12"x6" and weight limit is 20lbs (9-10kg)

the locker box i got was about 250mmx250mmx250mm. i reckon it was less then 300mm cubed.

that was a brand new locker for rear of a landcruiser 3yrs back.

i found at the time it was slightly cheaper here in aus then OS. but it took some haggling $888+GST pickup from ARB newy.

get an eaton locker from harrop . my new style arb is a pos as the clutch gears are junk and to buy an upgraded clutch gear from spidertrax will cost 200 usd

Sorry state of affairs when it's cheaper to buy Aussie made overseas and ship it back...ain't your fault, so don't worry about it, you're not a charity.

No different to my time in pubs/clubs. Cheaper for us to buy slabs from Dan's than it was from CUB when we first started. I know my local milkbar buys his Coke slabs from the Safeway as it's 1/2 the price Coke charges him for it.

just bought arb air locker $1050 local, rather pay the extra $80 than muck around with shipping , insurance etc. If there's anything wrong with it I can just throw it back on their shop counter.

I agree. I'm happy to pay a (reasonable) premium to get the local support. When you buy goods you form a legal contract with the seller - not the manufacturer. If there's a problem with the goods, you are supposed to settle it with the seller. It's a little trickier when they're on the other side of the globe.
