3l fuel consumption
i have a 1996 ln106 2.8 n/a deissol ute. dont know wat diff ratios r in it but it sits on 3000 rpm at 100kph with 31 inch mudders. get about 400klm per tank. is it revving to high?
Re: 3l fuel consumption
I have an 88 2.8d na and with 31s I get just under 10L per 100km. Even when I run 33s or 34s I get between 11 and 13L per 100km.
Re: 3l fuel consumption
Fuel ecconomy mine on 31's but was turboed. i got between 9 and 12 L per 100km.
Ignore km's per tank its never accurately comparable to anyone elses km/tank as we fill up at different levels of empty and guages function differently to one another. use L/100km instead.
but on a good day i would get 600km out of mine though at 400 your either filling up super early or your gauge doesn't work or its drinking like a fish.
gearing:
Your tyres and diff ratios change your actual road speed at any given revs but don't effect what the speedo says in relation to revs.
the 2.8's do rev a bit I would have said yours sounds like it reving higher than mine did though. i could have sworn i was 2450 at 100 and 3000 at 120km/h. As far as I know all all 3L diesels (as in 2.8 Liter) had the same gearing out of factory ( I think that was 4.3).
Yours might have had 4.875's fitted? and perhaps also had a speedo corrector fitted.
Best was to test your diff ratio is jack up one side of the rear wheels. mark the top of the tyre with chalk and side of your tail shaft with chalk. spin the tyre until the tail shaft has done 1 full revolution - be precise. and note the number of turns of the tailshaft to complete the tyre rotation. half the number of tail turns and voila. so if the tail shaft turns 9 and 3/4 times to 1 tyre rotation then halve that and it would be 9 and 3/4 in decimal is 9.75 doivided by 2 = 4.875
if your tail shaft turns 8 and 6/10ths times then its a 4.3.
worth noting as well that early 3L's had mechanical speedos i.e a speedo cable where as later (about 92 ish onwards) had electronic signal wires for controlling the speedo. so yours is electrical speedo mine was cable.
