4.2 td smoke in the morning
4.2 td smoke in the morning
My 2000 4.2 td wagon seems to pump out a bit of white smoke and run a little rough first thing in the mornings or when it has been sitting for a while. I'm hoping it's just a little oil leaking in through over night, question is where abouts is it leaking from. I'm not very familiar with the internals of the 4.2 and Im set to go to the cape in month. Please put my mind at ease. Thanks heaps

Re: 4.2 td smoke in the morning
could be an issue with glow plugs mate. i'd pull em out and check em out, or just put a new set in
white smoke is usually a sign of unburnt diesel.

Honey i cut the car in half!
Re: 4.2 td smoke in the morning
either glow plugs or maybe injectors. as said unburnt fuel which usually happens when the engine doesn't have the heat (glow plugs) or compression (bad news) or spray pattern to combust all the fuel.
If you have a volt meter you can test the resistance for each plug (google for the specs). injectors is the next thing to check - some places will test them for nothing if you pull them out.
is it getting worse with the onset of winter? if so likely to be glow plugs.
oil burns blue so your mind should rest easy on that front.
