GQ 5speed into a GU

Post by andy86 »

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if a GQ TD42 5speed can be fitted into an GU sr1 wagon?
I'm about to do a conversion from RD28t to TD42 using GQ running gear.
I already know that the shifters are going to be different.

Thanks , Andrew

yea mate it fits. shifter is 50mm further forward but in my mates gu ute he still has clearance from the dash but still wants to bend it back just a little bit.

Is it the GQ that has the pto but the gu doesnt? I had a feeling this interfered somehow but was able to be sorted???

Guys,
These are not ever close to fitting in. The front section of the shift housings of the GQ box hits the floor.
Body lift is needed and a massive floor cut to get it working.
To save everyone else the muck around that i have just had over the last few days.

i had the same issue when i tried to fit one into a mates series 1 2.8 wagon that we were putting a gu td42t into. tried to put the box in first then the engine. found that if the engine was in first then put the gearbox in at the right angle i might have gone in but we ended up getting a gu box instead.

i have since seen 2 gu patrols with gq boxs. they do fit.

did all gq patrol boxes have the shifter in the same position?

I have just put a gu ute cab on my gq and used the gearbox from my gq.
I had to trim a small section of the tunnel in front of the gear stick, also put a 20mm body lift in, which i didn't really want to do.
The gear stick is foward a bit, its good because i have a bench seat... more room

so thay do fit but small body lift is needed to make it easy
gq wagon now a gq ute, straight gas tb42 with a thing on the side that makes it go fast

What's in the raised bit of the GQ box and why doesn't the GU one have that bit?

Because the shift fork set up is completely different from GQ to GU boxes.
