Hi everyone need your assistance.
Have anyone purchased a Lock Right/ Lokka for the Toyota Hilux LSD Housing which i believe they are 4 pinion diffs.
Recently i enquired from Locktup, Lockright does not make a lunchbox locker for the LSD housing anymore and only for 2 pinion open diffs. Anyone can clarify further if its true?
Also I was informed if Lockright made a lunchbox locker for the LSD housing, apparently it would be physically too small and strength would be an issue.
Anyway have anyone physically compared the difference between these 2 models (LSD and open diff)?
Is there any truth than the LSD version is weaker than the open diff version?
Also have anyone blown up a LSD version Lokka before?
I'm bringing this question up is because my front diff is running an LSD from the rear. The rear is running a Lockright which is using an open diff housing which was originally from the front.
I want to find if it is justifiable to order a Lokka for the LSD housing as i don't want to find out it's not as strong as the Lockright for the open diff housing.
Because back here, for the price of ordering a Lockright and a factory open diff to suit, I could purchase locally a Made in China Air Leaker for the same price. However I would still prefer an automatic locker for the sake of reliability and being automatic.
Looking forward to everyone's comments.

Re: Lunchbox Lockers for Toyota Hilux LSD vs Open Housing
why would you need an lsd when your buying a locker anyway?
Ive never heard of being able to put a locker in an lsd diff before either

Because i only have an LSD housing for my front axle.georgey wrote:why would you need an lsd when your buying a locker anyway?

Hence i'm exploring if i should order a Lokka to suit the LSD housing.
I was about to order it until a reputable online seller mentioned that the 2 pinion Lock Right for an open housing diff is stronger claiming because it is physically bigger.
Hence the confusion.
If you have not heard of a Lokka for Toyota Hilux LSD housing.

For normal 2 pinion open diff Lokka

So have anyone grenade a Lokka on their Toyota Hilux before?

Re: Lunchbox Lockers for Toyota Hilux LSD vs Open Housing
I have a auto locker fitted in both diffs, in my front lsd carrier and a open center carrier in my rear diff I think they were lockright brand it is made by richmond. ( they were in yellow boxes)
I have had no problems with either end yet running 35's and a fairly modded 308. The lsd locker only replaces the clutches and retains the oem dog gears where the open center replaces all the sun gears.
As long as ur lsd is in good nick it should be fine hope this helps

Re: Lunchbox Lockers for Toyota Hilux LSD vs Open Housing
A lot of the Lockrights designed for LSD hemispheres replace the clutch packs and sun gears with the new drivers while retaining the standard side gears as the coupler. This is probably why you were told it won't be as strong as a Lockright in an open centre which will do away with the factory side gears. The extra pinion shaft holes could also make it weaker.
You could just sell you LSD centre on eBay for $50-$100 and get a second hand open centre for less than that. Locktup says their Sparten lockers are stronger than Lockrights and are selling them for $350. It's a cheaper option than the Lokka but the money goes oversees...
