HID kits

I want to upgrade my light on the 80. I had to go to auto barn anyway. Got a price of $200 for 1 kits and $400 for another. I had a look on ebay and there are kits for $20. Whats a good brand and price for 1 of these kits? ANyone found any of these cheapies to be good?

I used the Britax Kits, they sell for around $250-300 mark from TJM stores and it's awesome. The cheap ones seem to be just that, and dont work all that well. I would recomend spending the money

I've bought 3 sets off ebay for a guy at work here, H1 6000k I think they were. Each kit has been no more than about $120 and when I've opened each box they all look pretty much the same.

The kit I have in my rally 4000 is from a group buy off of Outer's, was around the $100 mark and works as well as could be expected.

I don't know what difference to expect if I were to spend 4x the price though, maybe they don't take as long to warm up or something, but my kit only takes 5ish seconds to be at full brightness anyway.

Thats exactly right. What is the difference. What makes 1 good and 1 bad? Anyone?

I personaly cant see much difference with the 2 I looked at. They looked almost identicle and different brands.

I might be able to give you some nput on "cheap" HID kits.

I bought a cheap kit off ebay (local seller though) for my SS ute.
Was $79 and as you said, when I opened the box, it looked the same as any other kit.

Allthough they are 55w, the light output ist still not really that good, it's like they just lied with the watts and they are actually 25w......

Then after about 3 months one of the ballasts didn't start up anymore, was replaced on warranty (easy, because he is local).

Now, after about 8 months, one of the globes has changed from chrisp white to YELLOW (probably 3000k). The other one is still ok.

There you go.

The next HID kit I buy won't be one of the cheap ones..... You do get what you pay for.

Yeah but, I dont want to pay $400 for the same cheap 1 as you have purchased. Its seems too easy to get ripped off when you dont know the finer details.

Yeah, I agree, it's not really that obvious to differentiate between kits

The start up time doesnt really worry me. If it takes a few more second thats ok. And wouldnt the light going yellow just be the bulbs which you could replace with more expensive ones? I know its all down to the wire thickness, insulation of the wire and the electronics box. Wire wouldnt be much different from device to device (you would think). And I have no idea what im looking at with the electronic box. "ooooo prerty"

Hey guys just leaving some feed back for those who want to get hid's from ebay. I decided to go with an aussie seller for warrantee and other issues from ebay.

I purchased 2 sets of hid and 2 sets of 6x4 lights from thejazztrax. I was really hanging on these lights as my backing has detiriorated and my lights and very bad indeed. 10 days after I purchased them a box arrived. I opened the box to find 1 wirring kit, 2 globes and 2 6x4 lights (1 full kit). I contacted him straight away to tell him it wasnt all there. He insisted on telling me he sent 2 seperate boxs and to just wait. After a few more days I contacted him again and asked what am I waiting for. He said he was unsure if he had sent the other box or not. And was going to get his wife to send another box and give me the tracking details. She insisted on waiting a bit longer again. And still no tracking details as promised. After 3 and half weeks I finally cracked it and wanted my money back. The next day with reply from him I get the last box. I open them all up at the auto electrics place I have 2 sets of h4's instead of 1xH4 and 1xH3. I tell him straight away that the box has arrived but its still not right. He then wants me to waste my time and money sending the h4's back to him. I told him to get notted and to send me a self addressed and prepaid satchel and I would send it back. Doesnt have a care in the world.

1 month on and still havnt got what I paid for. And the worst part is that its the exact same ones that are for sale from china for a alot cheaper. I dont have a problem so far with the product though. Just dealing with this jerk.

My advice go straight for the china ones.

I had a similar problem with the delivery after it finely arrived i fitted them up only to find the cheap Lights did not allow for proper placement of the globe resalting in very poor distance of the beam and also left a black spot.

I then tried some light's from narva with the hid's fitted but i still belive i got better distance from my standard light's so they got pulled out and put the standard back in and i got the distance back.

So over all until someone make's a light/ lense in the 6x4 size to suit a hid globe these cheap ebay kits are just rubbish dont waste your money and if you do fit them just wait for the cops to pull you up and give you an unroadworthy certificate for you troubles

Your money do what you like my kit is sitting in my shed waiting to get thrown in the bin

I'd also give Thumpainc/Matt the nod.
He's not the cheapest out there (but still reasonable), but you get what you pay for..... very prompt reponses to emails/PM's, good back up and service. I have had a failure of a ballast supplied by him, and the new one was in the mail before I even removed the old one. Great to deal with in all regards.

I have also had dealings with another HID and lighting supplier in Melb......... PM's, several unanswered calls/messages left and txt's I gave up. Not sure how this bloke stays in business. I've had the same feedback from others too, who also gave up.

Interesting. I've been running the Chinese units in my GU headlights and driving lights, the beemer motorcycle headlights and it's drivivng lights and the missus' Beemer high and lows for approx the last 4-5 years without issues.

The only thing I could say against them is the HID conversions I find a waste of time performance wise in the H4's as apart from the GU headlights, everything else are H1's unless they have improved the globe type somewhat since I've purchased them.

Just note that kit doesnt come with the wirring loom. Thats an extra $18 odd dollars . My neighbor has some dirt cheap ones and they are pretty good hey. I have just purchased some more of my brand one for my spotties and boy, dont they make a difference with the spotties!! I also have a complete spare kit now with h3 ad h4 globes just incase anything goes wrong. Hopefully not.

ps. I know you get what you pay for! But, like I said before my purchase. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR GETTING??? You can pay $40 or $400 for the exact same kit. Ive looked into the cable and insulation, the globes, the wirring looms, and the converter box. With out opening up the converter box they are all the same.

I bought a set of HID's (BiXenon H4 Setup) from Soarer93 on Ebay, I think I paid 120 inc freight or close too.

Anyway, They were advertised as 55watt 4300K and as I have nothing to compare it to output wise, they do pump out alot of light. They are nice and white and not yellowy like I expected.
The quality of the Kit seemed reasonable, came in a plain white box shipped from a melbourne address, I ordered on a saturday or sunday and they were on my door step wednesday morning, all bits and pieces were in there and I have them fitted in a few hours (inc making a custom harness as the supplied one wasnt quite long enough)

Although they do produce alot of light, becoase they are H4 and dont have a propper sheild around them they do throw light everywhere, and I mean everywhere, it goes stright up, straight out, and glares like a bitch, ive had a fiddle with aiming them but they still throw alot of light about.

Anyway, all in all they seem like a good thing for the $$$'s, the startup is a bit slow, and the bulbs are slightly different colours, I guess thats what U get from cheap Kit's. For more info Ive been trolling around http://www.HIDplanet.com which seems like a gold mine of info!
