New alt and belts now whiring noise

Post by stilivn »

So just fitted a new alternator and belts to the 80 now its making this high pitched whiring noise. No its isnt a gilmore but yes sound like that but quieter. The new belts had teeth like surface on the inside where the old ones were smooth/flat. Could it be I have over tightened them or is it something else.
Cheers in advance!

My first thought was you have probably over tightened the belts. I'd loosen them off a touch and see if that sorts out your problem.

Cheers Mick.

Thanks mick. I'll give that a go an see how it pans out over a quick drive tonight. Have had enough today. 4 hours to install as the bolt holes were bout 5mm off. Bit of drilling out an is all good except for noise of course.

it could just be that the teeth need to wear into the pullies a bit...
