should i keep or upgrade.

Post by me217 »

hey
its time for me to make a big decision. with my first kid on the way i need to decide whether to keep my sierra or upgrade to a newer jimny.

sierra info:
g16b conversion
snorkel
235/75 15's
i have the rear seats but i dont usually have them in
next to no rust

now is it possible to legally fit a baby sit into a swb 92 softtop sierra.

also how good are the jimnys off road. and how easy to modify are they?

one other thing is what would my sierra be worth roughly?

I would be looking to go to a vitara.

Go do a little exercise put the baby seat in the back of the sierra with a pram and the baby day bag plus a hand full of toys. Put mum in the front seat the go do your weekly shopping including those small nappy 24 packs. I had a jimny when my son was born and it was ok at first but after about 3 months it had to go.

its not my only car, my girlfriend has a 03 grand vitara, i just want the sierra to be able to cary the kid if my girlfriend is at work or something. thats why i'm not worried about the size.

I wouldn't carry my kids in the back of a Sierra. The ride is terrible and would not be great for a small baby regardless of car seat plus safety factor of, well, bugger all

i just got one of the newer gv's after having my heart set on a jimny, but the build quality, ride, power and cab comfort was apaulling when compared to the gv and it was only 5k more.

i just bought the missus a swb convertible 97 vitara. we have 3 kids, 11, 3 and 14 months and they absolutely love it. the 2 car seats in the back fit fine and with the roof down they dont stop laughing.
when it comes to fitting anything in it, well we take the landcruiser, cause a couple of bags of shopping and it is full!! but its perfect for my missus to run the kids to day care and go to work in.
im not sure when the baby seat bolt holes appeared on cars but i think a 92 model would have them in the back.

i noticed today that the sierra has a bolt thing on both sides at the back right next to the tailgate its a bolt with a loop on the end.

would this be for the child seat or for the roof.

that would be it id say. the loop things are black, generally square hole and about 20mm wide. mine on the vitara are right back near the tailgate as well. then ya just run the lap seat belt thru the baby seat and tighten it up. get both as tight as you can and the baby seat doesnt move a mm.

awesome. but mine arent black lol. thats good news as i didnt wanna get rid of my sierra, ive spent to much on it. all it needs now is a lift kit and ill be happy with it. and some roll over protection lol

there are places that fit baby seats for about 30 bucks. might be worth getting the seat put in by them and they can confirm that they are the right anchor points.
the new born seats are fairly difficult to get right and tight and you really dont want them moving.
if you rent a seat they will fit them for you generally as well.

post a pic of the anchor point in your sierra would be a better way to confirm that it is what it is
