Is it worth Coiling a bj40

Hey guys I have been looking at suspension for my bj for a wile now and was just wondering if it would be worth puting coils on because I have to change shackle mounts and stuff any way

i think the end result is more than worth it if your willing to go through with whats involved.

Several people have replaced leaves with 80 series gear to get awesome ride and flex out of the 40series.

For a road rig in QLD no, I don't believe it's worth the hassle. You certailnly wouldn't get your money back. If you want a coil 40, look at selling yours and building a 40 Bodied rig on an 80 Chassis. The 80 Chassis is well thought out suspension wise and is able to flex as good as a nissan. Member 84Sloth from here has done it check out his build in the members. Or just sell your and buy an 80 or 100 series.

it is not worth it. You can get really impressive flex and good ride from modified leaf suspension. And you can do that cheaper than you can buy half the parts for coiling it properly. If you do coil it it would be easiest to buy all the parts off an 80 series and use them. But the you'd be far better off doing what scanas said and using an 80 series and putting a 40 series body on.

What I'm thinking of doing is cutting of my shackle mounts and welding on some 60 or 75 mounts because the pins in mine are smaller and putting a mix of 75 and something else on the front and the same on the back but with the 60s I've been told this works quite well what do you think and would you go extended tail shaft or just a spacer

Talk to member scotto. He's done full 80 series conversion on his bj. He loves the results, and will be able to give you a low down on the issues you can expect to encounter. Good luck.

I think you would have trouble plating 80 diffs under a 40 chassis with the width in QLD. Best to check with an engineer before you make too many plans. Re-bodied 80 chassis would be my choice, with bubs front diff housing...
