Looking at this Disco, advice please.

Post by wellsey »

Looking at this Disco as a camping/hunting vehicle. I will have around 3k left in the budget to spend on it.

This will be my 1st Landy and I know nothing about them.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

---------------------------------------------------------------

1994 Land Rover Discovery. 2.5 litre TDI engine.
208029km
Currently registered, but selling As-is.
Has been a great vehicle. Still drives excellent, returning great mileage with & without the camper in tow. Averages approx 10-11 Litres/100km fully loaded with camper in tow.
Reason for sale is we have replaced the good old steed with a new Defender.
Paints is in good condition with no crazing or lifting. But has the usual scrapes you would expect from a 1994 model 4wd that has been used.
Over all vehicle finish is good for age. Although window tint (fitted when new) needs to be removed due to bubbling.
Allot of money was spent on the set up for this vehicle. Many springs & shocks were tried before we settled on the current set up which has been faultless over the last couple of years. It drives so well which is testament to the time I spent setting it up.
Servicing has been performed by myself since we have owned it, with oil & filter on the engine every 5000km & 15000 km on gear box & diffs.

Accessories are as follows.
3" suspension lift Lovell's custom springs (rear) & tough dog (front) Custom Bilstein shocks on all corners.
Lift specific angle bush's on rear control arms, to correct travel with 3" lift.
4 x 33" Good Year mtr's with 80% tread. Mounted on 2" negative offset steel rims. 1 x 33" Good Year mtr at 100% tread. Giving the vehicle a stable wheel track.
Castor corrected swivel balls (corrects steering geometry with lift) this is the reason this cars drives so nicely with a 3" lift & 33" tires.
Crown & Pinion gears in the diffs have been changed to 4.11 to suit 33" tires. This also adds to the drive of the vehicle by returning the final drive ratio close to a standard ratio.
Maxi Drive rear locker with up graded maxi drive rear axles & drive flanges.
Heavy Duty adjustable rear ball joint.
Heavy duty 32mm Drag link & control arms.
Return to centre tough dog steering dampener.
ARB winch compatible Bull Bar.
Heavy Duty Tow Bar.

(Personalised plates not included in sale)

Price is negotiable $8000

motors are good and pretty reliable, although a bit sluggish but can be tweaked fairly easy to get td5 or more type of power out of them. Sounds like the owner has done a fair bit to it, just needs a front locker and your set. k's aren't to high for a deisel either
Make them a silly offer first :)

Asking way too much. I had a similar set-up in a 1997 Tdi, and I could only get $5000, and mine was in way better condition with a bigger fule tank to boot.
