Body Lift NSW

Post by Swerve »

Yep tried searching but links were bad in bible, other threads not sure ?

I just called my mechanic and asked if BL was legal (for my stock height G60 Patrol) an dhe thinks yes based on headlight height.

Looking on RTA only found this http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/ ... ations.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which isnt real clear ?

I dont wish to get my car engineered, and woudl rather rip it out now, then later.

Fairly sure in NSW a body lift will need to be engineered to remain legal.

It's definately political.

You can spring lift up to 50mm, but not body lift.

That's because ARB make a fortune selling 2 inch lifted stuff, and have already put countless cars on the road with 2 inches of lift.

Not sure what your smok'n but it makes sense to me, def not political. Imaging a body lift made from hollow tube, not safe! Or a home made job with shit welds. Yeah maybe have legal aftermarket kits but how could it be policed. On the other side anyone had a good look at supports under a ute tray that has 1tonne capacity, a bit of angle with a tab welded off the side and a few holes

If you were making a joke i take it back :D

In poor old conservative "15mm max tyre increase" Queensland, a body lift used to be inspected by DOT to make sure of the sensible things: suitable blocks, grade 8 bolts, nyloc nuts, that sort of thing.

I'm not surprised that NSW wants an inspection, but it shouldn't need an engineer's intervention.

I don't mean to sound like a shifty bastard but I have gotten a few roadworthys without an eyebrow raised with a body lift installed.

Its not the pink slip you need to worry about. Its the litigation and lack of insurance if you have an accident. Because if the insurer or the other party get wind of you having an illegal modification then it will be up to you to spend your hard earned to prove that it didn't contribute to the accident.

Technically, it's the other way around - the insurance company would need to prove that the accident would have been avoided but for the non-approved modification.

In reality, if they try it on, it will be you who has to push the claim through the courts. The insurance company has people who are paid to fight you; do you have somebody who will fight them on your behalf?

You can work out now how long it will take and how much it will cost to do the body lift properly. If you take your chances and do it without approval, how long will it take and how much will it cost to fight a claim?

I've already decided in my case to remove it and chop guards. Just dont want my truck going through engineering, so easier this way and without the cost. Who knows it may go back in th future (legally) but I'm a lazy bastard so probally all to hard.
