Stat write off parts

Post by killalux »

Hey,
Just wanted to ask, If I got a 100 series cruiser that is a stat write off can I re-use the bare cab?, It is water damage only. I know the car can't be re-registered, but do the 100's have a vin stamped on the body?
Looking at putting one on an 80 series chassis if I can use the body

yes you can use anything you like and you can also re-register the car.

Stat rite off is only written off because the insurance companys deem it not to be cost effictive to repair

but joe blow can repair and re register it. once you have it ready all you need to do is get a roadworthy then ( in qld anyway) go to queensland transport and book an inspection, they look it over and sign it off or class it as repaired not too sure which one.

cheers

They have repairable writeoff and stat, repairable can be fixed and re-rego'd, Stat can not. But not sure if I can use the body still.

I assume you wouldn't be using the computer/airbags etc, but a mate had a hell of a time getting a water damaged (written off) GU registered - spent thousands having the computer and 'bag/sensors etc checked out and deemed safe.

Not quite sure about this? But you can use a stat write off as spare parts only, I used a stat write off chassis as a spare part and used my old cab just had to get a surrogate vin number stamped on the chassis it might just be the other way round you may need a new number on the cab as the existing number is now a stat write off and if you try and rego it under the existing cab number QLD transport wont let you as it will be in their system. Thats what happened to me when I tried to let the police sort it out they tried to rego the existing chassis number then rang me and said "i'm sorry to tell you this as you gone to alot of effort building your car but you cant register the vehicle  but after many arguments I finally manged to rego the car.

havent you asked this question before?

No i will not be using any of the electrics out of the cab.
I was thinking that a way around it would be that I will need a surrogate VIN number, which will not be on the written off vehicle record. According to the 100 series owners manual the VIN number is only on the ID plate, Not stamped on the body, So worst case I guess I can change the plate with another vehicle that is not on WOVR.

My next drama will be getting it complianced with a later model cab, without using the airbags and shit.

No I haven't asked this question before

Legally I would think it would be a body swap which involves engineering now as an ICV - I was told by my engineer (wasn't discussing it specifically but I remember him saying something about it). I think there was a zook on a bundy chassis on here that did a similar thing? Steel art is good with this sort of thing.

A mate had this problem as well, several years ago though.

He ended sending it down to me here in vic.
I had to have an enginer report and a new chassis number and away it went

you can use the chassis and the cab, you cannot use the 2 together. Both will require a surrogate Vin, the POLICE will remove the id tag from the 100 series, not you, and fit a new one.

A stat CANNOT be re-rego'd as per the information above. they are confused with a repairable.

can i ask why you want to put it on an 80 chassis?

Thanks Nick thats what I wanted to know.

Only want to put it on my 80 chassis, cause I already have one, With the 6L V8 fitted all reco'd diffs, GU front, etc. Was planning on doing a cab swap anyway to an 80 series that will be chopped, And thought I could use a 100 series cab instead.
Will loose to much money to sell it and start again with a 100.

Make some inquiries with DOT. my brother had problems in NSW reregistering a repairable write off that he repaired using parts of a stat write off. You cant use major strucural elements of a stat write off to repair another car. NSW has some very specific rules about what can and cant be re-used, I would be making some careful inquiries. My brother went through heaps of grief over this

a stat write off is deemed to be too structurally damaged to ever be successfully repaired. therefore they are legally not able to be repaired, and are considered too structurally damaged to be used to repair another vehicle also.

I used to work in a wreckers here in the NT and with a Stat write off, you can use EVERYTHING from the vehicle EXCEPT for the chassis.

We had brand new cars that were stolen from the stevedores that were stat write offs and couldn't be registered here in Oz ever, but all parts including the engines were fine.

As i said, this is here in the NT, but it would be very much the same in all states.

more misleading information.

a stat write off has.......

been submerged in fresh water for more than 48 hours, 12 hours for motor bikes.
been submerged in salt water for any length of time.
suffered firewall damage, roof damage measuring more than 400mm square.
structural damaged to 3 or more stress points on the chassis or body
had the ID tags tampered with, removed or been involved with re-birthing

so the above comment if correct to some extent, lets say a tree fell on the rear half of the landcruiser and you wanted to cut it down to a cut. You couldnt do it as it has received more than 400sq damage to the roof, not could you use the front half of a roof to fix a dual cab. ( they are pretty lapse of this so you would have to get a right prick to have issues ) If the car was water damaged you could use any part of the cab you wanted to anything.

You will need receipts from where you got the parts including the VIN from the vehicle that the parts were removed, this is where people have trouble getting cars rego'd as they dont supply suitable paper work.

sadly, I'm about to enter this world of write offs, and have a question.

I've rolled my truck and need to sort out a solution to get going again. It was a keeper truck and I want to try and get it going again, one way or another. Its getting assessed at the moment so I don't know if its going to be stat write off or repairable write off, but I'm thinking the former...

The first plan was to re-shell it, but if its a stat write off, that won't fly. I've also been told that recently laws changed that means that you can't roadworthy a reshelled truck - I'd have to wonder about that, and figure that going through VIV etc would negate that?!

If its a stat write off, I would hope to pull the motor, diffs, GBox/transfer etc and leave the knackered body and chassis behind, and swap that stuff into another 80.

Question is, can I do that to a petrol 80, given that my motor is a diesel? Can I take my possibly stat wreck motor etc (diesel) and put it into a registered petrol 80?

Hope to know more this week and pick your proverbial brains about how I can get my daily driver, driving again...

diesel into a petrol will be no problem, lots of us have done that. just have to get an engineers report and change the paperwork for it.
