75 series cruiser HELP
Hey guys,
i have this 94' 75 series cruiser i am new to 4wd's as i have a wrist injury from motocross so decided to play around with the 4wd seeing that i am out for this racing season. Anyway i have got extended shackles on it, body lift, and in the middle of the custom tray being built. Its a bloody ruff ride, two leafs have been removed to try help, i am searching for some shocks as the standards are maxed out.
How can i make it a smoother ride/ some flex as it sucks now, and keep a good clearence on it?
i know its probably ass backwards but desperate for opinions!
Photo in next post below couldnt figure it out..

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Your rear shackle angle is probably your biggest problem. Did you have your old springs reset for lift?
Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Agreed. need longer springs or flatten those ones out a bit. the flatter the spring, the softer the ride.
Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
No the stock leaf springs weren't altered I just took two leafs out.
So what's the best way to flatten these out. Shift the hanger forward to change angle?
Or can more leafs be taken out??
What about the front is that a bad angle to?

Which springs did you take out?
Were they thick or thin?
Have a look at Zoltan's build up of his 75. MInus the SPOA his has good height and flex

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Yeah i took out one thick leaf out and one thin. The bottom one and the third from the top.
Yeah have checked out zoltans thread that's why I was thinking on maybe moving rear mount foward
But if I do that do I have to reverse the front shackle as well to compensate or can I leave it

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
You need longer main and wrap leaves to get better shackle angles and more flex, moving the mounts is another option. For the front I suggest fitting 60 series rear main and wrap leaves with a 2-2.5'' extended shackle.

Long springs how much and what sort? Will I lose a fair bit of height?
Could I just get 60 series springs and use them rear and front??

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Get some dobinson springs. Tell your supplier how much lift you want and that you want them a bit longer than standard to get a better shackle angle. You can tell them you want them soft rate etc
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
aim as a general rule for 45 degrees shackle angle. this puts more force into stretching the spring out flat and thus gives effectiovely a softer ride with the same spring rates.Plageman wrote:No the stock leaf springs weren't altered I just took two leafs out.

shift hangers - not legal but neither are your shakles - dont know if you care about that or not.
or
longer main and wrap leaf - from eg a 60 or custom made.

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
If you are to move the hanger move it back wards and use rear leafs of a 79 series cruiser ,there length over the 75 series give more comfort
Also finish your tray and have it as finished that will add a bit more weight to the ass end ,then start to work out which way you will go with your leafs
Edit .. that snorkle looks flash as , what size is the tube

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
would you say 60 series rear main and wrap leaves with the current front pack (minus the wrap and main ofcourse) be a good idea?
i wish someone would do a how to on spring disassembly, heard if they're not clamped they can explode or something?

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Thanks mate, so let me get this right I'm looking for stock rear 60 leafs to put at front and stock rear 79 leafs for the rear
Would I be able to use 2 inch lifted 60 series springs and 2 inch lifted 79 springs? Then move rear shackle hanger to fix shackle angle if needed after rears are installed??
I should just go all out and do a SOA, but I'm finding it hard to see what is exactly needed for an SOA. Zoltans thread helps but its hard to see what the minimum is that's needed. This if what I can gather so far;
- all perches to weld to diff
- u bolt flip kit
- shock hoops
- something to alter steering but not exactly sure?
- somthing to alter tailshaft again not sure?
- extended brake and handbrake lines
- obviously all the welding and cutting.
- extended shocks
- can I use stock springs just with leafs taken out??
I just wish I knew how if there are ann Great links to info on a 75 SOA would love to see em.
Any way snorkel is just over 3 inch mate think 80ml.
Cheers

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
60 springs are shorter but dont know if rears will fit front of a 75 but i do know they wont fit going from rear to rear
Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Try and get stockish height or ARB 60 series rear leaves, they are the shortest and will work best with a 2'' shackle in the front of a 70 series. Other brands I have found to have longer leaves, which means you will need a longer shackle. Mix the main and wrap leaves from the 60 pack into your 75 pack to get the desired lift and ride. Some pics of my one that I did, it will give you lots of up and down travel, I raised my inner guards ~60mm and the 31'' tyre still tucked up in there and just rubbed. It still had more droop in it too.Plageman wrote:Thanks mate, so let me get this right I'm looking for stock rear 60 leafs to put at front and stock rear 79 leafs for the rear

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
how did you raise the inner guards 60mm?
also one downfall i see is that the flatter springs make the shackle end stick out more which is more likely to hit rocks hmm

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Yeah I might have to sacrifice a bit of my approach angle for a better ride or some flex,
Im worried that getting new leafs ( 60 series front an 79 series rear) that I'll lose a fair bit of height, might just get 2 inch lifted springs to compensate the new angle of shackles, and flatter springs.

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
Yes you will loost height as the shackle angle flattens, which also reduces the spring rate, you need to adjust the amount of leaves in the pack to get where you want. I think I ended up with ~8 leaves in the front with that setup.
Raising the guards is easy

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP

i look at my guards and its 1 piece, looks kinda different to yours, so i dont get how its raised... hmm

Re: 75 series cruiser HELP
You don't raise the guard, you cut the guard up and fold a new lip.
