looks tight has anyone ever done this... ie turning crownwheel down???

As in machining some meat off the outside circumference of the crownwheel? I don't think that's a good idea as the whole tooth gives support to the contact area. When gears fail, it's often the whole tooth that breaks off. Add to that the amoount of heat that would be introduced during machining and you would have to have it heat treated and tempered again. Any increase in ground clearance would be offset by the smaller diameter tyres you would need to run to avoid breakage to the gear.REV_310 wrote:ie turning crownwheel down???
Toyota pumpkins can often gain 10-12mm from shaving and plating them but I'm not sure about Patrols. I thought the rear pumpkins came shaved?

i think he was talking about machining the crownwheel in the original post, not shaving the pumpkin. We cut a big hole, welded some thick as plate over it, heated it and belted it out with a hammer till the centre wasn't rubbing any more.
Um awhile... It's done 2 tuff trucks, a few other comps, social wheeling...
It's a Stock H260 crown wheel, no matching just a shave housing. I have more clearance with shaved H260 than I did with the stock H233. Rotating it helped a lot there.

Have done this before to h233 we gained just over 20mm on the back and the front just under 20mm..
it is a big difference as far as diff clearance is concerned you pretty much gain a tyre size..
