PROJECT: GU LEAF TO COIL

Post by mick87 »

Hi, im looking for help in regards to converting my GU ute from leaf to coil. Now before anyone says to sell it and buy a coil GU please understand this is a project for me ok?
I need help sourcing a H230 diff the chassis mounts and crossmember for the shocks. I intend to use after market upper and lower arms in the form of superior upper adjustables and the long arm kit.
I know ill need to get my brake master cylinder bored and sleeved and a different tail shaft.
(i know i left out panhard)

Is there anything else you guys can recommend i consider before doing this besides the price??
Also any good sources for parts in the central QLD area. (Mackay)

I should probably add that ill be doing this with a 5 inch lift as well.

Cheers in advance.
Mick.

i think there was a guy that did this build up and took plenty of photos while at it.
i would imagine the search function or a mod might be able to help.

was in the nissan thread IIRC

Yer Kyles ute isn't a normal conversion. He has a 4 link with panhard(5link) but it's got his own little touches. It's off tap 4 a street driven car. Many nights drinkin and talkin shot. Yeh pretty sure he is on here. Use to hop on in Darwin so I assumehe is still on here

your other option is to put a wagon chassie under your ute and cut off the old ute mounts or get some bent up by a sheety, I had a gq leafy and did it. the only difference is if you get a gq chassie, would have to get gq body mounts also and obviously you'd still have to get a coil rear diff.

why not do a proper 5 link front and triangulated 4 link rear using jonnie joints if you are going to
make the effort to do a coil conversion .

Not wishing to hi jack this. But I have just bought a leaf sprung 92 GQ, tray back. Have access to a wagon chasis, so I can grab the bits off that. Can I just cut off the bits needed from the diff housings or do I need to swap complete housing,

Also have to pay fella to do the job, can someone tell me how hard and how long the actual welding etc would take, I will remove panels and tray etc.

Thank you
John

Just use the coil diff if it is the right ratio. Theres not that much welding, it's more the measuring and such that will take a while as it needs to be perfect, once everything is tacked into place, a half decent welder/boily could weld it up in half an hour.
Oh and your better off using the coil diff as it has disc brakes i believe, plus it's not a land anchor.
