vitara cv upgrade?
vitara cv upgrade?
is there a bigger cv you can use in the front end of a vitara?
i have read about the hagan (think thats the name) to widen and make it use 2 lefts cvs but you still end up with a small cv.
car is a 92 lwb auto and on 31's with 2 inch lift.

Re: vitara cv upgrade?
Only two options,
Stan's Toyota CV mod, but you need to do the widening mod as per Hagen.

Custom CV, I had this priced through a place in the states that do desert racing trucks, $2000 from memory and then you need to get them here.

Unless you have the Anvil or steel front end to go with stronger cv's you will be wasting your time

any more detail on that toyota cv upgrade?
Re: vitara cv upgrade?
PM Christover or I'm sure he'll chime in. He has done the two of the same CV mod to his heavy LWB.

Timbo_ you're running the anvil already which gives you the bolt in RHS CV mod.

Re: vitara cv upgrade?
I have fitted a GV steel front diff/axle housing.
I did the LHS to RHS axle conversion.
Mine uses a GV axle support bush, not a bearing,
and is half a left inner axle welded to a half right stubby axle.
(By a professional drive train welder)
I chose this route because of money, and more room to fit a LHS axle in.
I have widened my front end only marginally,
but I used offset castor bushes.
This gave me just enough room, to be able to remove/change a CV if needed.
Hagen mod goes out further, but was to rough for me.
Toyota CV's are not actually stronger,
people use them because they easier, and cheaper to get hold of in wreckers
(in USA, not sure if same here)
And are easier to fit after doing hagen mod.
This is just my opinions and understandings, not necessarily right.
I have OME 40mm longer travel, plus 25mm with strut flip, and added 25mm diff drop brackets.
Since doing this my CV's love me a bit more.
I will still break them,
as did my Sierra,
but will be a quick easy change,
and only need one spare.

Re: vitara cv upgrade?
if you do the hagan mod with out doing the left cv change right away, do you have enough shaft length on stock cvs for the locking hubs to work?

Re: vitara cv upgrade?
Hub locks will still work, as axle at that end is held in position by the locking clip.zook4fun wrote:if you do the hagan mod with out doing the left cv change right away, do you have enough shaft length on stock cvs for the locking hubs to work?
I believe there would be enough movement of the inner cv to still bolt up, on drivers side.
Axles are same length both sides, just the right one is slid into inner cv further than the left.
But passenger inner cv is closer to the end and may need a spacer put in after hagen mod?
I had enough in stock axles for caster correction bushes,
which were roughly 7mm out and forward.
Just do the hagen bit first, and run without the axles until you can get the rest of the bits?

I did the CV swap to use the left shaft on both sides. Dint do any other suspension widening. Never looked back. (Until the motor threw a rod)
Cheers MIKE.

Re: vitara cv upgrade?
Still don't see how this is an upgrade Just makes it easier to change em out once you brake em. An upgrade to me would make it so you don't brake em in the first place.

Re: vitara cv upgrade?
the left and right cv have different length. Due to this, the left cv is slightly stronger than the right.
Re: vitara cv upgrade?
Thats just a shaft length difference, the joints are still the same and I can tell you they still snap the same. The Toyota ones are much larger and are much stronger. You can still snap them but I don't think you would on anything under 35". We used to have to give them a hiding to snap them on 35"s but the std suzuki ones snapped all the time.
